ZipZoomFly rebate scam?

Long story short, early last month ZZF had a sale on the Western Digital 640GB Black drives, which were $60 after rebate. I bought one, and finally got around to mailing the rebate off yesterday. Why did I wait so long? Because my build was delayed and I wanted to wait for confirmation of working parts before removing UPC labels? This, of course, was alright since the instruction form on ZZF's product listing allotted until 12/10/09 to send off the rebate.

As seen here:

The problem? When you go to the rebate site to register (which there is no urgent reason to visit until 12/10/09 at the latest), it then says you actually only had 30 days to send off the rebate. I sent an e-mail to ZZF support and they are denying the whole thing. Is this the notorious ZipZoomFly rebate bullshit I keep reading about on tech forums?

When I had to send in rebates, I was only given 30 days on each item I bought. But judging from the photo, it's pretty misleading since it looks like a ZZF rebate instead of a manufactures rebate, right?

If it's a ZZF rebate, I think they would have to honor it. Not sure.

It looks like most of the other rebates summary say that you have to send it off in 30 days. So if this one doesn't you should have a pretty good case. I would continue to complain, but try calling them if that is even possible.

But isn't 4myrebate a different company that handles it? I guess ZZF would have to realize that 4myrebate isn't going to honor it, I know this shit won't be handled by ZZF if it takes a month just to get a rejection. Has anyone ever dealt with this kind of situation? I have with newegg and EVGA, and they never even doubt me and just credit the account, but this is already heading in the wrong direction.

Smokingman, no procrastination. Didn't have a chance to test the drives until a day ago, and I wasn't worried about the cutoff since it clearly says "before 12/10/09".

Well, I can tell you that most rebates always must be mailed off within 30 days...Some are even 15 days, they usually clearly state this on the rebate form. If the problem is, you waited longer than this, than hate to say it but, its your fault.

Read the original post. It clearly states "Must be postmarked by 12/10/09" on ZZF's PDF file for the rebate. Only until you register on the 4myrebate page does it say 30 days.

I see...

Ya thats odd. Id personally never wait longer than 30 days to do it anyways, but ya they should honor whats on the pdf form.... Id show whoever is denying it the pdf.

+1

this is the way rebates work Companies plan on "X" amount of people not sending in the rebate or not doing it on time.

What does removing the upc have to do with other parts of your build anyways?

Procrastination?

Waiting for the product to be delivered, then to see if the product works and needs to be returned before filing puts you at week #3. Toss in real life and you're probably on week #4 before you are ready to file the rebate.

Something similar happened to me when I had a rebate through Newegg. Newegg did honor it but only after trying to give me store credit instead of a rebate. I would imagine that ZZF would do the same unless they don't like repeat business.

It's poorly worded, but, "must be postmarked by 12/10" doesn't apply to all orders; it only applies to orders made on the last day of the promotion....
11/10. 30 days.
You're really SOL, OP

No where in the rebate PDF does it state anything like that. You can make that jump in logic, but it clearly states that it must be sent by 12/10/09. ZZF will be open again tomorrow, I'll let you guys know what is going on. I am fully expecting to end my account with them and never shop there again considering my chances for being compensated.
