Zippy vs Sparkle

Zippy gives even PCP&C a run for the money, but both power supplies are solid. Pick the one whose features fit you best. Barring that, I would go Zippy.

I wish there was some info on how loud that Zippy is, and what connections are on it.

The web site, owners manual, etc has no specs for noise or connections, except that there is 2.03,ATX12V(P4),EPS12V,WTX,AMD-GES.

So how many 4plug connections, I'm assuming it is 24pin because of the EPS12v, how many SATA power connections, is there any 6pin for pci-e, etc?

manual

if it's like a standard ATX PS w/SATA, then there will be 2 power connectors.

the manual definitely shows the options available for the PS.

cheers,

dave

Thanks Dave,

I had to update my Acrobat, the pin assignments had been showing up as blank pages.

buy which ever one is cheaper

but if you want something that will last a long time and be more reliable, then that logic needs to be examined more fully.

remember cheaper /= better.

On the contary, both supplies are very solid performers. Therefore, "cheaper is better" can apply in this case.

the Sparkle
has both higher amps and tighter regulation the the +12V rail

I'm suprised you said that.

Zippy is +-5% load, +-1%line, 100mV ripple max. 71% efficiency. Temp 0-40c
Sparkle is +5%-4% load, +-1%line, 120mV ripple. 63% efficiency. Temp 0-25c

I was ready to order the Zippy, but I still haven't found any info on noise.
If the Sparkle was that much less I would definately consider it.

Just don't want to spend $200+ right now on a power supply, especially if they change the specs for pci-e to 150w instead of 75w.

Not to nitpick, but the 6500 model that he linked to is listed as +-5% in the manual..

DOH

youd think that after the last time I quickly reviewed a source and got it wrong
(wherein I was hounded for months as a RAM idiot)
Id slow down, nice catch there ;)

Ive got a Zippy myself and like em
though I have had to replace one of the moduals (N+1)
after an unknown time before I bought it used plus 3 years of use
went out just the other day, of course its still running fine on just 2
won the auction for the replacement this morning
