Zii - New Creative Product

"Stemcell" computing? Creepy.

I wouldn't put it past Creative to design a chip that runs off dead babies. :D

I registered and this is the email they sent me:

Zii is StemCell Computing
Thank you and congratulations on the early registration.
You are now part of a privileged group that will witness the life changing event of 2009. You will be invited to join a new movement that will experience revolutionary breakthroughs.
Everything you know is about to change.
Drawing our inspiration from the intelligence of Mother Nature – who through over a billion years of evolution has designed the basic building block of life: the stem cell – we have created a stem cell-like silicon that is able to grow and multiply into different solutions and ecosystems.
With an investment that spans over 10 years, over a billion dollars and over 10,000 man-years, the world is poised to experience a breakthrough that will better lives beyond our imagination.
Even in the midst of these turbulent times, you will discover incredible recession-friendly business opportunities that enable you to thrive and prosper.
To find out more about Zii and how it can change your life, visit our booth (booth #30651) at CES 2009, or go to Zii.com from 8 January 2009 for updates.

Ugh, if they can't release proper drivers for their own products I have no idea how this is going to work.

its the next gen of audio after x comes Z pci express hdmi audio card go

I don't think this has anything to do with audio, and it probably won't be replacing the X-Fi. From what they're saying about how much time/money they spent on it, it can't be as simple as an audio chip. It's probably some super crazy next gen mutli purpose processor. :p

Sounds like some FPGA-like reconfigurable logic chip, with a large helping of hype.

The safe bet is that it is still audio related, as Creative is an audio company. Now probably isn't the best time to be breaking into new industries.

'Stemcell-like silicon that is able to grow and multiply into different solutions and ecosystems." Creative has invested over 10 years, 10000 man-years, and over a billion dollars on this. This is clearly nothing like the X-Fi guys. I'm sure it will not be an audio chip, or at least it will do a hell of a lot more than audio.

Yeah but ecosystems? Wtf is that about? At least it is mysterious and interesting for now. Something called hype I have heard of lol.

Anyway, let us hope that it produces its own drivers b/c we know what we get with creative otherwise.

I'm sure they're just using the term ecosystems to represent the different type of products that can use this processor. I think. :)

Creative is a marketing company first, hardware company second. With that in mind I highly doubt they have something incredible.

Indeed; they're just pushing the metaphor. They haven't redefined computer chips as we know them, and despite what they'd like you to think, 10 years and a billion dollars really isn't all that much for the R&D phase of a new product line.

Looks like a nice SOC. Not sure why it'd be media-centric, but okay :)
