ZFS SMB performance issues

Hi all,

i am running a Solaris 11 with a zpool (compiled with ashift = 12) consisting of two WD10EARS in a striped configuration. Copying files locally from (to) the OS hdd to (from) the zpool works just fine with the expected performance.

However, when i share a filesystem via SMB i get a weak performance of about 15MB/s compared to the expected 60-80MB/s.

The very same disks perform just fine when attached to a Windows 7 box (as software RAID0) and configured as standard windows network shares.

Do you know what's wrong with my setup?

Its too low for a single problem,
maybee a bad network cable + a copy tool like Teracopy + a Realtek Nic with bad/old drivers on
Windows - each item lowers performance

Just forgot to mention: I'm running on Gbit LAN. I think i can rule out network hardware, as it delivers the expected results when transferring files from Win to Win.

The server NIC is an Intel 82574L; Client 1 has a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20); Client 2 has another Intel 82579LM

server <-> client 2 transfer speeds are as bad as server <-> client 1. Client 1 <-> client 2 speeds are at 60-80MB/s (limited by client 2 hdd)

I am not using copy tools; just a regular Win workgroup.

The switch is a TP-Link TL-SG1008D: 800Mbit/s (measured with client 1/client 2)
