Looking at making the move from 4GB fiber iscsi for my ESXi hosts at home, to 10GB NFS. I've got a couple Intel X520-DA2 cards (one for the storage server, one for the primary host, and need to pick up a DA1 card for the secondary host). I already have two DAC cables also.

Of course ESXi forces sync=always so my RAID10 datastore of spinning disks is going to be painful without a SLOG. I'm looking at a 200GB Intel s3700 for around $130 and thought I would see if there are any other recommendations around that price. Would a S3500 suffice for a home environment?

I'm only running about 6 VMs right now (in-between my studying/lab work) consisting of a Plex server, Usenet/Torrent box, WSE2012, Unifi controller, and vCenter appliance. Will probably be spinning up a couple Microsoft System Center VMs soon, but usually no more than 12 VMs running.
 
You can get Intel S3700 100GB for $70, that should be plenty. For slog I recommend S3700.
