ZFS napp-it/HW RAID?

I'm about to build a new ESXi 5 server and intend to use the napp-it solution.

I will be booting ESXi 5 from a USB stick and have 4 x 2Tb disks to make use of. I also have a PERC 5i card. I've read mixed reports whether the hardware RAID card should be used or not?

Anybody able to give a definitive answer before I make a start?

Hardware raid is a no-no. JBOD each of the drives on the controller.

When using ZFS in an ESXi environment, it completely depends on the ability to pass through the hard drive controller to the virtual machine.

Using any type of hardware RAID and/or hard drive virtual configuration completely negates the benefits of ZFS.

Thanks, maybe I'll just use the onboard SATA connections then. It's only for home/light use so won't be pushed to the limits on a regular basis.
 
Can the OpenIndiana/Napp it solution be used still if the host doesn't support passthrough?! :rolleyes:
