Ok, I have an Intel S5000PSL based motherboard ( http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/res...s/server/boards/dp/s5000psl/feature/index.htm )

and I need to find a compatible HBA SAS card with an external SFF-8088 connector to connect to an external JBOD enclosure.

I'm like for this HBA to be supported in OI so I can run ZFS on it.

And I'm having a hard time locating a reasonably priced HBA for this setup. Because of the server case, I can't use an adapter to go from SFF-8087 to SFF-8088, since the case only has 1 slot, and I'm having to use a PCI-E riser.

The enclosure only supports 3Gb/s, and I'd like to support 3TB drives, so 1068E based HBAs I believe will not work....

Anybody have any suggestions?

Look at LSI HBA's with an "e" in the name
http://www.lsi.com/channel/products/storagecomponents/Pages/HBAs.aspx

like a 9200 or 9212

Those are all 6Gb/s - PCIe 2.0 cards... aren't there any 3Gb/s cards? Or even better yet something that is rebranded with the correct chipset that can be found on ebay cheap?

6 Gb cards supports also 3 Gb disks.
But if you like disks > 2 TB, you need the newer chipsets.

With external connectors, there is no cheap offer like a IBM 1015

As I stated in the post, I can't use these types of adapters because it is a 1U case, and only has a single pcie slot for the HBA, no place to put one of those adapters.

So the HBA *must* have an external port.
