Got my new toy the other day, 20GB zen touch, and i just as a reccomendation to anyone else in the market for a 20G+ player, get one. I trailed a few, and i found the zen touch to be far superior to pretty much all the others i looked at (iPod gen 3 and 4, archos gmini, panasonic something or other) with the except of the sony nw-hd3, which is kick ass, but also twice as much money. The only thing id say is a downside is the lack of support for appearing as a removeable disk, although creative might sort that in a future update.

As far as headphones go, the included ones are pretty good, especially with a bit of eq, but i treated myself to a pair of Sennheiser px100s, and the difference is unbeliveable, lots of bass lots of treble, lots of mid. and al for £30. Fantastic set of phones that anyone with a portable should own. I was gonna go for a pair of the etymoic (sp?) canal phones, but the included ones reminded me just how much i really really hate them, so i went with a pair of over head ones.
 
Be gentle with it, I am having touchpad issues after a month of use on mine. What happened is the front plastic somehow separated from the actual touchpad, so I have to press the face down on both sides to use the touchpad at all. Plus once you get to some of the high-end phones, I've found all kinds of issues with the sound....basically somewhere (i think decoder), certain low-bitrate recordings will have a severe pitch shift.

As far as the player is concerned, my next player will be an iRiver...this unit was nice, but the touchpad issue is ridiculous (i also lost the receipt, so creative is refusing to RMA it...grr).

Canalphones are nothing like the monstrosities that came with the unit. Those were earbuds. but canalphones are a little much for many users, so don't sweat it.
 
Really? Im surprised to hear that, ive had a fair bit of creative gear, and their tech support has always been excellent. So far it has only lived in its little belt pouch, but after hearing that i will be keeping the reciept. I haven noticed any issues with the sound, I tried it on a set of HD 600s, and i didnt notice anything, although admittedly all my music is high bitrate (192kbps+).
 
most of my music sits at 128 or 196kbps.

I listen to primarily rock though, and we all know how bad MP3 is on cymbals though... :(

Just seems the Zen makes it worse, who knows maybe I should try WMA on it.


edit: BTW dude, you might want to cut your speakers from your sig to make it 10 lines, before the mods blow a gasket over it ;)
 
Done, didnt even know that was a rule, guess i shoudl have done more than skim read them. Have you seen any modded firmware knocking about? Most of my collection is in mp3, but i would have a reason to reencode all my cds if i go to lossless, it doesnt even need it for most tracks, but the option for the odd ones that really dont like being mp3s would be nice.
 
I would not hold your breath for Creative to make the Zen appear as a hardrive natively to the OS. They have had harddisk players for along time, they should know how it is done by now. So I only assume for some DRM reason they do not allow native harddisk support.

However that said, I have an older Zen Jukebox and love it. I highly recommend getting Notmad Explorer from redchair software.
