Sorry if this was covered allready, I'm still getting the n00b stink off of me. I had a chance to listen to the Zalman ZM-RS6F when I was at Quakecon. I have never used headphones when gaming before but they have become a necessity since my new office/game room shares a paper thin wall with my 3 year olds room. Anywho, are these a decent set for the price. I can't really spend more than $50 or $60 and liked the surround sound headphone idea.
 
I can't be to enthusiastic about the sound quality of these headphones. Sounds rather tubby and hollow, with absolutely no bass reproduction, which makes them terrible for music listening. The lack of bass also greatly reduces the impact of explosions and crashes like you will expereince in games. They do however reproduce a 5.1 sound field quite well. The only two games I tried with them were Doom 3 and Unreal tourney 2004 and they were quite effective with these games. For the price I suppose they are a great deal and better than 2 channel phones for gaming.

I say the Kinyo 5.1 set, I got mine for $50 locally and they work flawlessly.. if you can look pass the minor hiss they make when connected to the amp then you've just bought yourself a nice quality pair of headphones for dirt cheap. Yeah the included amp works well but remember to not be a dummy and use the headphones if you don't have a 5.1 card.. even my Live 5.1 eats my Nvidia nforce2 onboard audio alive with the Kinyo set.

The 5.1 is awesome in any game you play, i've had them for 4 days and i've replayed most games just so I can feel the immersion.. Sof2, Kotor, Ghostrecon, Homeworld2.. all the oldies with great sound that i've been missing so much in.. ViceCity is just amazing with these things, I highly recommend them.

Cons:

Hiss - No biggie when audio is playing.
Lack of bass when connected to a 3.5mm jack without a dedicated amp.

Pros:
Bundle of wires
5.1 really works and damn good at that
High quality headphones
Included Amp so bass using windows/creative is not an issue
Pass-through on the amp allows you to either use your desktop speakers or the headphone at your choice... sweeeet.

Thanks for the information MajorKnuckles, I am looking into the Kinyo's now, so far everyone that has written a review that I have found like them alot more than the Zalman's.

Yes, but why post another Zalman thread when there are already more than 15 dealing with them?
 
Well it's kind of like this, I go to school full time, run my own business and raise my three year old boy,everyday. Looking through every single post that came up when I did search for Zalman just didn't reach my list of priorities. So, I figured that I would give it a shot and dive right in. Please understand, I'm not trying to start any shit here but the fact of the matter is I'm just trying to squeeze a little fun into my day again. How's this for a deal, after finals are over, I promise to do another search for Zalman and read it all as a penence. :p
 
In the time you took to type that post, you could have read 2-3 pages of a book to you son, done some extra studying, or read the first 3 thread that come up when you search on the word "zalman" in the computer audio forum. Now you're just being a butthead.
 
Lets just say the Zalmans don't qualify as nice audio equipment and leave it at that shall we?
 
Read two or three pages of a book to my son who is in bed, after four hours of prepping for my final. Heh glad to know that makes me the butthead. I asked a simple question, got the answer I was looking for and was prepared to move on, but for some reason I keep catching a ration of crap for asking that question. For 50$ to 60$, I'd suggest a quality pair of stereo headphones, specifically the Sennheiser HD497s, 60$ or so. I have a pair, love 'em.
 
I have been reading around about Sennheiser, they seem to be fairly popular. I think I am gonna try and find a place where I can just listen to a few different pairs to see what I think. On a side note, I am running the SB Live Gamer 5.1 now. I will be using the headphones for the majority of the time and when I'm not I'll be using a simple set of 2.1 speakers. Do you guys think that it's worth the money to upgrade to the Audigy 2 or stick with the Gamer? Thanks again for all the info!
 
Yes!
An upgrade from a Live to an Audigy will be a big change, specially when you start using whatever cans you end up buying.
 
There is no problem, but the Zalman threads are getting repetitive. Most have one or two people that like them, then lots of people argue about why they are inferior to stereo headphones, and people recommend alternatives. I personally liked the hd497's for gaming and music.

Looking at the threads (even just one) would have been relatively easy and is normally better than reposting the same thing.
