the fan worked great at first but now its acting weird.

it seems to be a problem with the controller. it doesnt work at anything but the lowest RPM setting.

sometimes it doesn't work at all (like right now)

anyway i can bypass that? i dont care if its on 100% all the time.

sure. disconnect the fan controller and just connect it directly.

Does the 7800 gt have fan control? I mean, does the stock fan change its speed? If so, plug in the vf900 fan into where the stock fan plug goes. on my ati x800, I had the reverse the red and black so it would work. Now I control the fan using atitool.

some people would be afraid of doing that because they're not sure how much load the oncard header can support, and don't want to overload it with a more powerful fan. I don't see it really as that big of a risk personally, although running down from full speed might pose too much stress.

I can't speak for the 7800 but on the 7900 it's a different header than the standard 3pin fan plug like the zalman uses.

thanks, im stupid.

I can't connect it to the card because i think that one is only two prong, so it wouldn't fit.

connecting it directly worked fine, thank you.
