Well I bought a Zalman VF-700Al/Cu cooler for my All-in-Wonder Radeon 9800 Pro card, ripped the package open... and discovered it would not fit! It interfered with the TV tuner (even though the package says it is compatible with all cards except Matrox cards and NVidia PCX cards). What to do? So I decided to mod it...

Here's a pic of the card with the stock cooler. It was loud as a freight train rolling through my bedroom at night which is why I bought the cooler in the first place.

I removed the fan from the VF-700 so as to not get metal dust in the fan and used my Dremel tool to cut off 9 of the cooler fins (if I had to do it again I would only cut off 7 fins).

Here it is assembled on the All-in-Wonder card

And installed in my rig

I'm not sure if it is cooler but definitely is quieter. :)

That's a rather interesting way to do things...

did you ever check your temps before?

I checked the Zalman site (after I bought it) and says the VF-700 will not fit the All-in-Wonders due to interference with the TV tuner. Sure enough it didn't.

I can say it suck's for this reason...air cooling is still air cooling...
My PC is four feet from my bed and runs 24/7 so I bought it for quietness... not cooling. With the Antec Phantom PSU (no fan), Zalman CNPS-7000/AlCu CPU and VF-700/AlCu GPU coolers, Vantec 120mm case fan, and NXP-305 speed controller... my PC is nearly dead silent.

Dont take what is said the wrong way..for silent cooling some air is perefect...I play on a whole diff level..so silence isent a issue..

wat you need to do next is replace that 7000 with a ninja ;)

I thought about that too. Main reason I am using the CNPS7000 is that I bought it about two months ago (before my MOBO would not boot anymore and I had to replace it last week). I decided to use it for now since my whole rig is only one week old.

Wrong, It WILL fit on the x800xt AIW. No modification required. :D

This thread is about fitting it on an All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro. IT WILL NOT FIT WITHOUT MODIFICATION!!!

i don't think air cooling is all that bad most of the time...it's very quiet in this case and performs damn well.

Yes watercooling has it's merits, but not everyone uses it, and many do not wish to...a well thought out air cooling system can work just as well as many watercooling set ups. Without the threat of *gasp* a leak

I dont use water that often..my file server has water but that was for keeping 2 xeon's cool and quiet..i use LN2 and dry ice most often....it's for my benching rig..my work station is my lappy :p
