So I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this or not, but I figured that since it had to do with modding something this would be a good guess. I have a Zalman 9700 nt and was wondering if anyone knew how/ seen anybody modify the fan on it so that it has blue LEDs instead of the green ones that come stock on it. I have pretty much only blue LEDs in my case and was kinda hoping to keep the theme going. Any ideas?
 
IIRC they use 110mm fans, so there might be a problem with that. I'm pretty sure the regular 9700 has a blue LED fan though, so you might want to try contacting Zalman to see if you can buy it's fan from them.

Otherwise, it CAN be done (I've done it with an 8700), but will require you to basically remove the fan from it's frame and sand down the blades to make it fit.
 
I tried doing what you want to do. I have the 9700NT, but wanted it to be Blue leds to match the rest of my case. The only reason why I did not buy the 9700 Fan is that I wanted the PWM Fan control. That was before I had the fan controller. Now that I have one it would be an easy fix.

I pulled the fan out of the cooler, then pulled the fan apart by pulling the sticker of and removing the retaining clip. I wasn't able to get the circuit board out of the housing. So I carefully made some holes in the back of the fan enclosure so I could reach the solder that held the leds in place. I was then able to get my soldering iron in there and get the leds loose. Then I soldered the blue ones in there.

It was quite a bit of work but came out pretty good. Now that I have a fan controller it would have been easier to just buy the 9700 fan. It can be done, but it's a PITA.

IIRC the blue 110mm fan supports PWM, just doesn't have a wire for it soldered on.

I can't check, as my fan was completely destroyed in a failed attempt to get the PCB out. Nice to know that at least someone's done it, though :)
