Zalman cooling on R9800XT?

Is the cooling worth it? The radical cooling has a fan at the side of the fan. Which is really huge.
Here is the picture

its an absolutely fantastic cooler, and the fan is nearly silent...

But you dont actually need the fan if you have the typical dual 80mm (or even 92's) fans blowing thru your case panel down onto the AGP, Northbridge, cpu region.

Just remember.. you CANNOT have ramsinks on the back side of the card.. unless you cut them down in size. Clearance is MUCH tighter on the back of the card then it is on the front with that sweet new Zalman heatpipe.

Since my pc has 2 rear, 2 front and one side, that cooling will be not that useful? So a normal 9800xt card will do. I have lots of space at the back.

What he was saying is with sufficiant case cooling, you wouldnt need to optional 80mm fan on the video heatsink. I would add it too anyways for better overclocking as the optional fan really is silent. I have it on my 9600 Pro and its great.

exactly.. if he allready has fresh external air blowing onto the exact same area the optional ZM-OP1 would (AGP slot, first & second PCI slot, Northbridge), then he doesn't need to buy it. That's not to say it will HURT to get it and put it in there. Actually, a 2nd fan just under the first panel fan will help take the load off the panel fan, increasing airflow and maybe the accompanying noise coming from the panel fan.

However, if you have a window in the side panel, it's just 1 more item in the way of your view, more wires.. more crap to deal with. I purchased both the ZM80C-HP AND the ZM-OP1, and I have to tell you.... assembling the ZM80C-HP is a REAL bitch... and installing the fan into the slide-in notch along the top of the heatsink panel before attatching both of the 'Zalman' reinforcing tags only makes it worse. :( Make sure you take it slow.. and any time you go.. "huh? WTF?", stop and go over the directions a few dozen more times. If you have any questions.. my IM is in my User info

zalmans are great for card cooling ..but they do raise inside temp of case due to working so well with keeping card cool

Only if you don't have an excellent supply of fresh air coming from the front of the case (in multiple areas), being pulled out the back (also in multiple areas)..

I have a 4Q Full tower I took some legible pics of if anyone is willing to Host the pics for posting?
