Anyone had a good look at the new Zalman heatsink? Kind of looks like a low profile XP-120. It is only 2.5" tall. has a 92mm fan. It should easily fit in a qpack and the likes. And apparently holds its own with the Ultra 120.

I just ordered one yesterday for my XQpack. I'll see how well it does against the stock Opteron heatpipe cooler I'm using now.
 
I'm waiting for AM2 support w/ a blue LED fan. Weird how Zalman has *zero* AM2 support except for their CNPS9500 cooler...

I'm using one with the rig in my sig. I've tried stock HS, stock HS + heatpipes, Zalman 7000Cu, and XP-90C and so far the 8000 gives me the best temps.

With the 8000 I idle at 35C and hit about 46C on load. With the XP-90C I was at 40C idle and 50C load. The Stock HS w/4-heatpipe idled at 44C and was around 55C on load. Ambient temp is usually 24-26C.

The 8000 cools better and is a whole lot quieter than the XP-90C (I had a Panaflo with it) so I'm happy.
 
So for you its worked well? I have looked at this and really like the look of it. I currently have a dual opty stock sink with 120mm fan and its quite noisey and temps are okish but it takes up a lot of space!

Any chance of it mounted on the board

My CNPS7000 ran worse than the XP-90 and had similar temps to the AMD 4-heatpipe HSF. On my rig the 8000 cooled almost 10C cooler than the 7000.
 
how does this compare to the 7700 CU? I use the 7700 cu in my qpack and was wondering if this 8000 is better. I get 35c idle and 50c load with my opteron 148 oced to 2.6ghz.

It can do 2.75ghz on air but i don't think the 7700 can handle that
 
I found a review for it and it looks like it just clips onto the plastic retaining clips on AMD's sockets (the middle plastic finger). Not sure why Zalman has to release an AM2 version as they're planning to do...
 
Has anyone tried this heatsink on the Foxconn 6150?

The reason I ask is because the northbridge heatsink has given me trouble with the Arctic Cooling Silencer 64.

depends what model you're talking about; i forget where in the x2 line-up they start getting the heatpipe cooler, but the low-end ones (namely the 3800+, which most ppl buy) come with the standard non-heatpipe cooler. dual core opterons come with the heatpipe one too; maybe thats what you meant.

then again, dark79 did post their temps comparing the cnps8000, xp-90c, and the heatpipe cooler; maybe the fan will help a lot though. wanna do some more testing for us dark? :)
 
The stock opty hsf is about equal to an XP90C. I have had a FN82 and now a 120mm fan on my dual core opty hsf and it does well but imo is quiet noisy. I'm hoping the Zalman is quieter as i'm trying to silence my box

Stock opty is about equal to a XP90, doubtful it's as good as the fully copper version. At least it wasn't in the reviews I've read, nor in my testing.
 
Yes your right more the 90 than the 90c. Its still the best stock sink i've ever come across!
 
OK, had this one for a few days now.
Pros: Better than stock Opteron heatpipe heatsink by 6 degrees C or so...quieter, too. Easy to install (doesn't require backplate removal, uses stock mounts). Slips into X-QPack easily, very light design, short yet efficient. Seems to have less copper than stock sink...but works better?
Cons: Expensive! No LED model (that I am aware of...but that would be even more expensive!)

This is on an Opteron 165 in a Biostar Tforce 6100 board: As you can see, plenty of clearance.:D
 
tangent: Is that Tforce 6100 the socket 939 version or socket AM2?
I haven't been able to confirm that the Zalman 8000 will work w/ the AM2 yet...

It looks like it does (since it just clips into the centre lugs on the 939 bracket), but Zalman themselves say the CNPS8000 isn't compatible with AM2. I don't really understand why. I might be planning an AM2 build with a QPack, so the 8000 seems like the best choice for CPU cooling.

Korruption: yep, that matches what I've dug up so far as well..should work in theory but no one's tried it because Zalman says it won't work.
I'm hoping Zalman comes up w/ a mechanism that uses 4 of the lugs instead of just 2 :)

I think I'm done ripping apart my QPack for awhile... :D

Still using the 8000 in my rig and sitting at 35C idle and 45C load. My NB is really close to the 8000 and since it only has passive cooling it tends to heat up the heatsink too. If I ever slap on a chipset fan on it, my temps should drop a little more.

Also, the last time I opened up my case, I studied the 8000 to see if the fan was moddable (like the 7000). I didn't actually take it apart, but I think it's pretty doable. Later I may change the fan out for an extra Panaflo I have laying around.

Sure it was a bit pricey, but I'm most happy with it in my Qpack. It's the best heatsink I've found for my rig.
