have any of u modded your zalman, such as getting a more powerful fan, i mean can u take out the original 90mm fan and mount a kick ass 80mm fan? my case fans push more air than my cpu cooler, so i thought what the hell, might as well mod it, i love the heatsink, but the fan itself doesn't push much air, im more into performance than quiet...

I thought about it but I don't know how.. need a guide. 2600 rpm seems kinda slow, I would like lower temps.

Firstly IIRC, it's a 92mm fan, not an 80mm. It shouldn't be terribly difficult to mod, but you will have to remove your fan from its outer casing completely.

First off, if you are concerned more with performance than noise level you should have got a different heatsink. If you are stuck with this one then it is possible to swap fans out but it's somewhat of a challenge. You have to take the outer frame of the fan off so you are left with just the motor center and the blades. You then have to figure out a way to mount it to the heatsink. I actually used a cheap rubber band method but others have drilled new holes for fan mounting and even fabricated their own mounting brackets. I personally don't think the performance increase you might get would be worth all the trouble. I'd just sell the Zalman and get something by Thermalright that will accept any fan with ease.

I'd do some searching over at http://www.silentpcreview.com/ forums. That is where I found the info I needed to swap my stock fan over to a quieter panaflo.

i just added another low db 92mm fan with a zalman fan bracket and placed it over my MASSIVE all copper zalman hsf and what do ya know 7C drop on CPU and 18C drop on pmw

has anyone made a duct with this hsf, i was thinking about doing it, but not sure on how to get all the air through the duct. with those heatsinks that use normal 80mm fans so u can screw it in.
