HI guys has anyone used the 9700 or 9500 cpu cooler from zalman? the thing seems pretty huge i bought the 9700 and I don't want to ruin my cpu or board with the weight becuase it seems to weigh more then recommended for the cpu.
Anyone using one or know anyone who has one running on their system?

Rico

also guys i was wondering i some 9700's in pictures they have bright copper colour fins but the one i have says 9700 and on the box says pure copper but this more steel colour like a silver so i was wondering is there different ones or do they use a different type of copper material now ?

I;ve had a 9500.

9700 is better, and one of the better coolers out there.

If youre looking at the NT version, (black color) the material is still copper. Copper is used for all of the 95/700 heatfins. They just paint them a different color. (same performance I believe)

I use the CNPS 9700. It's my first Zalaman product and I love it :)

thanks guys, ya i love the look of it and it looks like it cools a storm and all the reviews i have read give it good reviews. I am glad to hear that the NT still is all copper and just a different colour because i actually prefer the look of the silver fins but want the cooling of the copper. Can't wait to set it up :) damn building up a pc is so fun hehe :p

Don't get a Zalman.

Thermalright FTW. You will not regret it. Any of the newer Thermy will do better than any Zalman. I have an HR-)1 and I would not doubt that even with a medium speed fan it would beat the Zalman on high.

Zalman's have really come down in performance vs other co's lately.

As a long time Zalman fan, I've had the 9500 and now using the 9700NT.
It's doing a fairly decent job cooling my E6700 OC'ed to 3730mhz @ 1.48v. Idle low 40s and Orthos small fft cpu stress goes up to low - mid 60s.

Now it's not simple to give you a yes or no suggestion becouse there are various factors that one should take in b4 purchasing a cpu cooler/heatsink.

If you're concerning with the size/weight and cooling performance, then Zalman 9700 or 9700NT (both the same, diff in color and one is PWM) may still be a better choice over stock HS and average aftermarket cooler.

However, as the previous poster has said, Zalman isn't on the very top of the list like in the past. 9700 series is the top of line from Zalman but it's ranked in the 3rd-4th place among other 10 major competitors.

If you're striving for absolute performance, the new king of the hill is the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme but keep in mind that it's a bit heavier and it's quite large. The fitment may be an issue depends on what kind of case you have. You better check its spec measurement b4 you buy one.

Zalman is a preety decent cooler and although it's on the heavier side and one size larger than its predecessor 9500, but it's still a bit lighter and smaller than TRultra120X.

I have a 9500 with blue leds in my computer right now sitting on top of a X2 4800. The ambient temperature out side has been low to mid 70's to mid 80's and my computer room's window is in mostly direct sunlight all day. My cpu never gets above 44 degrees C, even under a heavy load. It is usually around 38 to 40. I am really pleased with it. I would love to have a 9700, supposed better temps, because it is bigger, but none the less I am very pleased with the 9500. You may do better with the thermalrite that was talked about in an above post, but it is going to be a bit more expensive than the 9700 and about 15 to 18$ than the 9500, just something to consider.

I have the 9700LED and it's big but fits just fine in my Antec Solo case. I've been very happy with its cooling abilities. The only heatsink I'd consider over it is the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. Anything else needs to be much louder than the 9700 to cool better.

thanks guys i ended up getting the 9700 nt not sure what the difference is with the NT over reg one but it was only one they had in stock. I have heard lot of people saying good things about Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, so i tried to look at it but the stores around my house don't seem to carry it so I got the 9700 but it doesnt look copper its silver colour but i guess from what one person said they just changed the colour somehow but its pure copper.
Is the weight an issue because i get nervous when i read these warnings on the packages and you read the stock specs and how they are 480g or something compared to 780g or whatever it is but i guess lot of people are using them so doesnt seem to be too much trouble with that, maybe it's just overkill to let people know to be careful when moving it etc.
All this cooler talking made me almost go for a watercooled setup but i always worry about the damn thing leaking one day and frying my board lol anyways for now air cooled is easier :p
Thanks again for the opinions
