Of course i like maximum cooling, but my concern is the size. Will it fit with my current setup? I'm still waiting for the case to arrive so i have no idea what the dimensions are. Thanks.

The 9700 fits fine. I do advise getting the 9700 NT instead of the LED version (3 pin connector) mainly because the NT version has the four pin fan connector that you can plug into the PWM header on your 780i mobo.. unless you don't mind controlling the fan speed manually. In that case, go for the LED version.

So you're saying that i could control the fan within a software with the NT version? I looked into it since i like the gray color instead of the copper color but its more expensive.

What are your guys thought on the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler ?

With the 9700 NT (dark aluminum finish), the fan speed will be automatically adjusted according to how hot your cpu gets. This is done on the bios level. You have control over exactly which temperature range you want the fan to throttle.

If you're looking to cool your q6600 and cost is not an issue, I recommend the zalman if you're into aesthetics. It is one cool looking HSF, one of the best out there as far as design. Although there are coolers that will perform better at that price, the zalman will not disappoint in the cooling department. The difference is negligible unless you are pushing your chip to very high OC.

But if the cost is a concern, the Xigmatek is a good option for a quad core. Freezer 7 Pro is good but I recommend the Xig for quad.

Decent, but not up to par for serious overclocking. The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 would be a much better choice for a cheap cooler.

I heard with the Xigmatek 1283, you'll need the retention bracket for it to be sturdy. When both are bought in newegg, it adds up to 52$ which is the same price as the Zalman 9500. Why didnt they just include the retention bracket in the first place? I was considering the Xigmatek for the price but it adds up.

The Xigmatek is $35 and the bracket is $7. I don't see where you get $52 from that.

...and the Zalman is not even close to as good as the Xigmatek, so even if the cost is similar the Zalman still shouldn't be an option.

Hmmmm, i really thought the Zalman was one of the best out there. I guess i'm gonna really consider this Xigmatek.

the zerotherm nirvana has free ship and 10 dollar rebate right now at newegg, so that would be a better buy than the xigmatek.

Sorry, it must have the 4 pin instead of the 3 pin. When i found out about PWM, it's now one of my requirements.

The PWM fan on the Xigmatek works quite well, for the record.

Yea, im guessing i'm gonna succumb to Xiggy. i'm about to pull the trigger tonight. If only that stupid bracket retention didn't charge 6.99 shipping fee then i would've done it already.

You could always just use the push-pin mounting if you don't feel like paying for the bracket. In your situation I'd probably just forget it, considering it'll cost you around $15 more than the base unit once shipping is factored in (as you pointed out).
