The Zalman is fine....if you want something quiet and easy to install...but if you want the option to later add a tornado to your cooling grab the SP94 you can hardly go wrong with this hs i've also tried a nice quiet fan ontop of the SP94 and there's hardly any difference in temps regarding to the tornado........
32C Max P4 2.6C HT@3.3Ghz 1.66Vcore..........it all goes down to your case cooling and ambient room temp........cooler room temp will make a shitty HS perform like no other........
I was asking myself the same question a couple of months ago, and I went with the SP-94 plus a 92mm Panaflo fan. Very silent, and keeps my processor pretty cool.
I would tell you want the temps are, but my motherboard's temperature sensor is so far off that I don't even have a general idea what temps I'm running at. I can tell you, though, the heatsink is cool to the touch even under load, so it cools very well.
I'd personally go for the SP-94. Weighs less, performs better, and secures better than the Zalman. With the flexibilty of allowing one to choose any fan, one can balance out noise level vs. performance.
Also, I think svc.com may still have a sale on it. I got mine for $35.
I have a Zalman 7000 alcu on my Abit IS7 board and a Thermalright SP-94 on my Abit IC7-Max3 board. The Zalamn is more quiet but the SP-94 would colol down from full load much faster. I'm happy with the results of both heatsinks.
i went with the zalman for 2 reasons.... it was about 20 bucks cheaper and its easier to install, when i want extra cooling power i just place a fast 92mm fan over the sink and my cooling is as good as any air cooling out there with little added noise, think about it the more copper the better the cooling to me, you just gotta add the extra airflow
Both will work although the SP-94 + quiet 92mm fan combo is more expensive. I have owned a Zalman CNPS700A-AlCu and it's 99% silent at full speed. SP-94 + quiet 92mm fan will probably give similar or slightly better performance.
