I've got a Gigabye P4 Titan533 (GA-8iHXP) motherboard (socket 478) that I'm considering putting on a Zalman 7000 Heatsink.

My question is can I install a Zalman 700 without taking the motherboard out of the case?

I've been to the Zalman site and I have seen the install demo.

How are the two side rails that fit into the mother board attached. From the demo it looks like they are just set into the MB holes

Anybody know of a link to step by step Zalman 7000 - soket 478 installtion with lots of pictures??

Thx

You have to use the mounting holes next to the CPU socket, so unless you can access those mounting holes from the back without having to remove the mainboard from the case, the answer is no.

Ya but the downside is the fins on the heatsink are real lint collectors and they are hard to clean.

Maybe the air filters on my nice case will reduce the problem.

Its pretty silent if you use the included Zalman fanmate to turn down the speed. At max speed its audible.

you dont need to take out the mobo, just place the 2 metal bars in the retention bracket and then screw it on, couldnt be more simple.
