z97 mpower boot problems

Heyo, I am in a predicament and would appreciate any help. I just picked up this board and plopped a delidded 4770k in it and had a big scare. IT WOULDN'T BOOT! I scrambled to try bunch of fixes and it turned out to be related to the ram. If there is anything in slot 1 it doesn't work, I tried with both corsair and samsung memory. Slot 4 on the other hand is completely fine with both brands. I have yet to mess around with S2 and S3 as I am one of those kooks who doesn't like to power cycle their psu more than necessary. I am thinking it could either be the motherboard or something that got damaged in the delidding proces. Again, any help is appreciated, thanks!!

Bad contact between CPU and socket also seems like a possibility to me. IIRC delidding requires removing the normal CPU mounting system and relying on the heatsink to hold the CPU down which seems to me like it could be prone to trouble if the heatsink mount pressure is uneven.

Man, I was hoping someone wouldn't recommend a reseat D: It will probably take me a couple hours to drain the system, remove the block, and re-connect all the piping. It might be worth it though...

Do you have latest bios? Had similar problem with my z97 pro - it didn't want to boot in dual channel, and couldn't detect memory in slots b1/b2. Only when I put the memory in a1/a2 it booted. Thought pins or memory controller is fried, but tried bios upgrade. After that never had any problem with boot.

I tried that and something different happened at least. Still no boot but the debug code went from 55-10-19-15 to a constant 2b and then it would try and restart once. I have no clue what that means and can't find any info about the code 2b in the manual or online... Thanks for at least lessening the debug codes to search :D

I have been scouring so many websites recently and have yet to find out what code 2b means but did stumble into another possible solution. since I done have the ihs on it is possible that there is uneven pressure on the chip resulting in pin to pad contact problems. You are supposed to loosen the pressure on the waterblock so I am going to try that...

When you take the waterblock off, check to see if any damage was done to the CPU. Without the IHS too much pressure could scratch or crack the CPU.

If there is no damage on the CPU, inspect the pins in the CPU socket. The pins can easily be bent when removing the CPU. Use a magnifying glass to see if any of the pins are bent and you can use the tip of a mechanical pencil to ease any bent ones back into position.

Which method did you use to delid? If you used a razor, check for any damage to PCB. I have not heard of any problems resulting from the vise method, unless the PCB went flying after the glue let go.

I took everything apart and gave the cpu and motherboard pins a close inspection. Both appeared fine, I blew the dust off of everything, cleaned the cpu with rubbing alcohol, reseated, refilled the loop and fired the system back up. Not only did the memory problem remain but now my gpu isn't detected/is fried. I think I am done with computers forever...

I feel bad that I keep reviving my own thread but this time the news is good!
I decided to do the ultimate fix to test whether or not cpu pcb warping was causing my memory problem. I did the unthinkable *gulp*... I put the stupid IHS back on!!!
That fixed my memory problem, woooo. I reseated my gpu, that fixed that problem. And when I finally got into windows I was getting a page file BSOD which was solved by clearing the cmos.
I am so happy that everything is working now. Hopefully if someone else is in my boat with a bare die mount they will have some luck.
And to all the haters that give the "it's basic thermodynamics CPU-TIM-IHS-TIM-WATERBLOCK" response to people who put the IHS back on, my temps are exactly the same...
