I want to upgrade my current setup to a 5.1 and since the z680s are cheaper now I plan to get those. Currently I have a TBSC. What I want to know is:

Is this combo decent for the time being? I plan to upgrade my sound card within a month.

Also, how would I be connecting the speakers (digital out from TBSC?) I'm an audio newb :(

Thx

I’d assume that you would want to have it hooked up via both digital and analog. Digital so that it can pass DolbyDigital and DTS from your DVD’s, but Analog to pass stuff such as EAX in games. The only problem you might run into is that the port for the sub/center is the same port that is used for digital sound (you select the function of the “versajack” in the control panel) so you might not be able to have both hooked up at the same time. Other than that, I’d think the combo would work rather well. The TBSC is old function wise but the sound quality is still up there with the best of them and it supports up to EAX2, which I believe is the highest any non-creative card supports. I’d think the only real reason you would want to upgrade your soundcard is if you really want EAX3/4 or whatever.
