Z10PE-D8 woes

recently picked up a Z10PE-D8 motherboard, got it setup in my case and everything installed.

got windows installed, all the drivers, everything is running great. finishing up some utility installations, decide to reboot once more before bed. doesn't come back up. memory was good, passed all checks beforehand.

if i take the cmos battery out, it boots up fine. clearing cmos also makes it boot up fine, until i save bios config and reboot again.

if i save and exit, it goes to next boot device, loads windows, and runs great. reboot, nada. it sits there and cycles power over and over before even reaching POST.

i've tried disconnecting all the drives, no change. replaced battery with a new one, no change. tried disabling random things like vt-d, etc. nothing seems to make any difference. i updated the bios as well, as a last ditch attempt to see if it was something that got patched out, but no change there either.

even leaving the battery out it, it boots into windows fine. obviously i have no clock or bios configuration, but it works.

anything i'm forgetting to try? :confused: or should i start the RMA process?
 
Keep an eye on the hex code display and see what codes it cycles round on or freezes on. That might provide some insight about what is causing POST failure on subsequent restarts.
 
i've tried watching for it, but when it power cycles it changes very quickly.

while booting, it sits at 04 for a few seconds, then 19, i can see it flash into something in the 20s then it shuts off and starts back up, repeating the previous action

edit 1/21: i've also run prime95 and memtest for a few hours last night with it running without cmos battery on the board to try to eliminate other hardware as the problem. i disconnected more or less everything but the power needed to run as well, no change

thanks for your reply. i have indeed updated the bios to the latest 702, i forgot to mention in original post.

which jumpers? i have not changed any. i checked jumpers before, but i did not see anything that would cause a problem unless you know of one in particular on this board.

i will have to check UEFI settings next
 
just an update i was never able to get anywhere with the board. off it goes to asus tomorrow.. :(
 
got a new motherboard from asus yesterday, got it all hooked up today and now i'm stuck on another code. i've updated the bios with the cpu removed and checked all my connections. the led display sticks at code 67 and i can't get past it.

i was able to get a q-code dump if it helps at all, i've pastebin'd the output here http://paste.ee/r/hO6FP

any ideas? :(
 
Might be worth listing parts - especially memory kits (combining a number of kits can cause issues). That's code b7, not 67. The b series of POST codes are memory and sometimes PCIe related.

i'm using CT16G4RFD4213 for memory, no mixed kits. it worked before as well on the last board i had before i RMA'd it.

i have only been testing with 1 cpu (E5-2620v3) and 1 stick of memory for the sake of keeping things simple. using a spare 660gtx for now for vga. (i've tried without the 660 as well, but i know it works)

i guess next i'll try moving a single dimm around the 4 slots to see if it boots in a different slot
 
i found the problem. slot A1 is dead. moved memory to next slot, boots and operates completely normal

guess RMA again?

Yes but sorry about your fortunes. How long is your warranty on the replacements? Hopefully they will cover shipping.
