z-680 with third party speakers

i was wondering how well my z-680 sub/amp/control pod with some higher quality speakers would sound? like maybe some infinity beta 20's and a corresponding center? i really am not up to date on home theater speakers, but just some nice bookshelf ones would work well, or am i completely off and should just wait and get a reciever and sub which i dont have the money for currently (my price range is < $1000)

for reference, the sat channels on the z680 amp are 62w rms and 69w for the center and im fairly sure 10 ohms

i have rsx sattelites on mr klipsch ultra sub
so theoretically i dont think there would be any problems
make a google ive seen people do it before
but the best thing would be to get a new sub /reciever

i was in the same boat with you when i had my klipsch promedia ultras. I bought some MTX floorstanders (the ones in my sig) and they worked fine with the Klipsch sub amplifier, but the sound of the floorstanders was definately much louder and better than the rest of the promedia set that you pretty much didnt even hear the promedias anymore. So then i figured there was no point in having the promedias anymore so i sold them and just got a receiver and went from there, which was a good choice.

And $1000 is a great budget to get started.

All 8 of my speakers (including sub) + the receiver cost just about $1000 total. Keep in mind that i got everything on clearance or on sale, so i saved about $50 of the total cost, but keep your eyes open for good deals and you can put together something good.

I recommend going to circuit city or best buy, or maybe online, and maybe with the recommendation of other members on here, you can find some good deals and put something very nice together for under $1000 :D
 
hmm, think i should get the beta 40 floorstanding or the beta 20 bookshelf? there dont seem to be any retail stores that carry the 40's or any reviews that describe them...but ive heard the 50's and they sound great.

anybody here have experience with them compared to the 20's?

get the beta 40s. I imagine the sound is almost identical to the beta 50s, which are very nice. Good choice :) Also, get a Harman Kardon amp for them.

Infinity = a little bright
Harman Kardon = a little warm.

the result is a fairly neutral sound. Both brands are part of the same parent company, and the should play nice together :)
 
im just wondering, isnt the Stereo x2 effect for my z-680's supposed to take a stereo signal and send it to all 4 speakers? i've never been able to make it be any different from the normal stereo effect in Direct or Coax
