I used to run the onboard sound from my nVidia video card only to realize it was just stereo recently I switched over to the onboard soundcard of my motherboard (Via VT1708S) which is 8 channels and suports dolby digital etc.. I am running analog cables (green,black,lime) to the speakers and have tried an optical cable with the same effect.

The problem is I cannot get it to register as digital or 5.1 it is still running stereo mode..
When i test the speakers in audio deck each one plays accordingly so I should have 5.1 but when I am watching a movie or playing games only sound from the front left/right and sub UNLESS i turn on SPEAKER FILL which from what I can understand is fake 5.1 not treu dolby.. my tv is a LG 37LE5300 ips panel which supports dolby and the logitech z-680s do aswell.

Some more info.. I have a coax running directly into my TV no set-top and an optical cable runnng from the optical out of the tv into the optical in on the z680s some channels automaticly register as Dolby Digital because the pod says Dolby and so does the info when I look at the channel on the tv.. same with the playstation 3... I run hdmi cable from ps3 to tv with same optical out of tv to optical in on speakers in black ops says DDigital...!!
 
if i was to buy a 100$ sound card top of the line plug ANOTHER optical cable from the sound card to the HDMI-IN pc input on tv leaving the logitechs connected thru the optical out would it be 5.1 or the same thing where I have to enable majic 5.1 aka speaker fill to hear all the speakers??

the main reason im ticked off is cause i damn near fell thru my roof in the attic searchign for this stupid analog cable so i could run 5.1 instead of stereo only to find out its still not 5.1 even with onboard sound
 
oh ya forgot to mention if i enable speaker fill and leave the pod to 6 channel direct only movies or internet videos / music will play from all the speakers when I loaded bf3 beta only front left/right & sub unless I change it to Dolby Digital Pro Logic II Movie mode...
