Z-560 and DVD player

I hooked up my Z-560 (4.1) to my home DVD player , directly to the dvd via L, R audio. i don't think it is working in surround sound ... what am i doing wrong? there is sound from all 4 speakers, but identical sound,,,, how can i fix this ?

please some help,

I dont think you can get surround sound from your speaker through your dvd player. In order to get the surround sound you need to connect it through the digital coaxial or optical. Your speaker doesnt have both the connection and the ability to decode the signal.
