e08 sent me a PM yesterday with his nod for the name of the program we've been working on here..... I appreciate all who voted and made suggestions!

A couple of you offered to make some icons (large and small) for this project... Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.... Since it looks like there are going to be two apps, we should probably have 2 different icons.... Any ideas? thoughts? etc?

as for direction...... being the non-creative person I am.......................... It needs to be something folding related, but not related to any specific team.... should reflect what it does (tracking proteins and returning/compiling data)..... Beyond that.... I dunno?

I think I have come up with away to do that somewhat. But it kind of opens up your firewall. I followed your thread and stuff but I can't remeber. I think green beer made my head green

 
As things stand right now, I think it's only networked PCs..... and maybe not even that as of yet.... mikeblas can fill you in on that....

It doesn't output any files (at least not for the user).... it sends all the data back to a central server....

Nope, the way it sends data back to the central server is just like you filling in a form in a web browser and hitting submit. It's all standard outbound HTTP traffic on port 80. We figured that'd be least restrictive to people with corporate firewalls or whatnot.

We need large and small icons for a Windows app for now. So that's 32x32 in as many colors as you'd like, and then 16x16 in as many colors as you'd like. The background (if any) should be transparent. Regular Windows *.ICO stuff.

Anything larger should be fine; it can be placed on the website.

There's two apps: an installer (which has a GUI, and might be run more than just at installation in order to set some options). That'll have visible icons, even though it isn't run much. And a console app/service, which isn't really visible about its icons.
 
I'd like to do a beta over the weekend. Should I plan on artwork being available?
 
It's a program similar to EMIII.... it tracks the progress of your boxen, and returns the frame data back to a central server.... this lets us track your processor and see what kind of PPD you're getting..... (very broad generalization)

I threw the icon up in the other thread since it falls under the design stage.
 
Yup... and I've got 3 or 4 others who have volunteered via PM..... mike, I'll email you the list when you close to sending the beta out....

Do you want them in .ico, or did you take care of that already?
 
They're fine by me, but I didn't see anyone else in the other thread respond. I didn't convert them to ico. I don't know what parts are supposed to be transparent.

hey if you still need beta tester people hit me up I can put it up on some machines

 
This round is closed; I already have almost twice as many people as I feel comfortable supporting. There will be other, larger passes, though.
 
Slow to the party, but if you want another 8 boxes on the beta and some feedback, let me know. I know it's late in the game.
 
This list was more about alpha testing than beta testing. Alpha is long over. Beta is pretty much over; we've got a release candidate. In fact, I'll probably go to a general release this weekend.
