Hello all,

I have seen a couple threads about people getting sweet OC's with their A64 3000+. And because of this, I am becomming more and more tempted to upgrade. I want to get 939 for many different reasons (128bit, the future) and i want to get a nForce4 board so i can use the new PCI-E GPU's. Sure, I know that APG hasn't lived out its life yet, but every new card coming out nowadays seems to have PCI-E version. I'm looking to not have to upgrade for a long time, being one of the many poor college students in this world.

So, I am looking at this Giga-byte K8NF-9 Socket-939 nForce4 mobo and this AMD64 3000+ CPU at MonarchComputer.com for $285 total. It even seems as though if you purchased now you get Far Cry (DVD), Half-Life 2, and some free downloading off Napster (like i really care about Napster). The price for the combo seems to be about on par. What i need to know is does all this sound good? How about memory, any recommendations? I want 1 gig of RAM, but am not looking to spend over $200 for it (more like $150-180). I want some memory that i can get a good OC out of; looking to hit 2.2ghz range (only 400mhz increase) with ease on stock cooling, but able to hit 2.6ghz in the future if needed. I know people have hit higher OC's with this processor, but i'm looking for something temporary enough that i can use with the stock fan and heatsink. What do you think of
Corsair 1GB PC 3200 XMS Dual-Channel DDR TWINX. Its $169.99 right now. Any other better suggestions for same amount of money?

My Benchmark Scores:

Total = 9,223

Come on! My computer is only 1 year's old...Do i really need to upgrade? No seriously, should i upgrade?
 
upgrade only if u feel its necessary and if the games you play today aren't working good enuf. some people must upgrade constantly because of addiction, like me.
 
If you upgraded you could keep the drives, so it would be pretty cheap... All you would need would be videocard//mobo//cpu//ram, i'm sure you could get athlon 64 3400+, 1 GB, 6800 GT, asus K8N Se deluxe for under 1000$

Oh yeah, i find that i am able to play basically every game (except Doom 3). I can run Far Cry, Need For Speed Underground 2, UT2k4, and solitaire pretty decently. But then again, that is "decent" by my terms. Maybe what you consider decent is actually pretty damn slow to you guys. I've never actually been able to play with any of the newer computer toys.
 
I have the same proc and and memory on the socket 754 platform which easily OC's to 2200 on stock cooling.

All in all it looks like a good setup.

By the way, if sold, Windows XP Home would come with it as the Professional i got from work. I would also keep the Office Professional 2003 discs as well, but the computer would come with it installed and XP Professional as well. I know the Office software alone costs about $300.

[EDIT] I'll even throw in the POS wired Dell mouse that came with it.
