This is a fantastic idea *cough*for porn*cough*. YouTube? Not so much. ;)

A video of artist Madilyn Bailey performing at YouTube Music Night lets users click through a choice of four camera angles as they watch, without pausing. We got the best results by letting the video load a bit before jumping around (apparently pulling down four streams at once can take up a bit of bandwidth) but it still seemed to hesitate occasionally when switching.

The NFL needs to learn how to do this, as it stands if they can't see a clear view from ONE ANGLE they won't overturn obvious fumbles/non-fumbles/catches/etc. I really don't know why matching time codes on video is that much of an issue for instant replay.

If everyone would upgrade to a triple monitor system, they could play 3 angles at once.

DVD standard offered this feature, but hardly anyone used it. Content creators generally don't want hassle to record from multiple simultaneous cameras. Most consumers were unaware of the feature.

As a kid whose parents upgraded to DVD when I was ten-years-old (16 years ago?! - damn). I was VERY aware of this feature... And disappointed that it went unsupported. I think out of the many discs we had, only three or four of them actually supported it. :(

I remember seeing the button on the remote wondering what it was for. Never did have a DVD that supported it.

The first thing I thought of was concert video...and boom that's what's at the top of the article. It's something that's been used on DVDs for over 10 years. It'd also be useful for movies that have an alternate angle; however, I don't know if anyone actually uses that feature when available. I know I don't, but for concerts, it's nice to watch whatever player you're interested in.

Of course porn is good too ;)

I think it could be nice for sports too, although most sports aren't really on youtube of course (neither is porn). Most sports are using a bunch of different cameras at once anyway, so switching between them yourself would be cool. Skysports F1 coverage already sort of does this by having the "main feed" of the race and also an "onboard" channel, for example.

I have a crazy idea. Why not try improving the shitty ass quality of your single stream content first.

Next up, youtube with oculus rift support. Or at least it could have been if they were smart and scooped them up before Facebook.

No need to pull all 4 views at once. Just delay the switch for the duration of the pre-buffering of the new angle while continuing to play the current. Done right, the switch should reasonably be less than 1 second.
