According to a group of Japanese companies, YouTube has agreed to post Japanese warnings against uploading copyrighted material on its web site.

YouTube also said that it would make efforts to filter out copyrighted Japanese video with the help of its parent company Google, according to a statement from a group of 23 Japanese TV stations, entertainment companies and other organizations

Seems like a better approach than flat out suing their asses. Maybe our American media companies ought to get a clue.

Sue them to remove all copyrighted media already posted, or negotiate so that any further material is filtered.

I'm no lawyer though.

Yeah... I have noticed an abundance of anime and such on youtube. I'm sure they were getting chewed out by the companies that released them. That's alot of money that people aren't spending on anime, because they can just see it on youtube.

I wonder if this warning is going to be anything like myspace's warnings that can be just ignored.

Time is approaching for artists et al to understand they sell a SERVICE not property.

For the first bazillion years of music, it was a service industry. Technology turned it into a product/property and that same technology is turning back into a SERVICE whether they like it or not.

Get with the program, go with the flow or be CRUSHED like a BUG.

The first thing that will probably happen (being the easiest), is they'll get around to making YouTube police their site, and delete any unauthorized content. The next will to chase the worst offending uploaders.
Its only a matter of time.

I cant see the "waning" being a permanent fix.

Youtube used to be a good way to find a lot of low quality copies of old music videos and other interesting archival footage that you wouldn't easily locate elsewhere. Then they sold out.

For $1.6bil, I'd sure as hell sell out too.
