I am building this system for a customer for a home business, he will be doing light cad work with auto-cad 6 , and running 3 other programs at the same time , none of them too extensive. i,m trying to keep it under 1500 bucks as the comp is part of another deal we have going. If I should go The Intel route please give me sugggestions about motherboard, memory and cpu changes and keep it within + - 200 bucks of the target. I know nothing of intel so thats why I'm asking.

Your CPU/MB combo is outdated.

If he wants an expensive case that's fine, but $95 for a power supply in that system is extreme overkill.

Since he will be doing mostly 3D work and multitasking, I'd suggest getting a Pentium D. The 820 is cheaper than the 3700+ and outperforms it greatly when it comes to multitasking.

Here's what I would buy if I was that guy:

DVD Burner
Case/Power Supply
Floppy Drive
74GB Raptor
250GB WD2500JD
19" LCD
6600 256mb video
Intel Motherboard
Pentium D 820 (2x2.8ghz cores)
2 sticks of 1gb DDR2-533

The total with shipping is $1471.09. If he wants to game on it as well and keep it under $1500 still, I'd ditch the raptor and put that money into a 6800GT or 6600GT.
