My wife wants a smaller system, and her Barton 2500+ is in a Micro-ATX mobo. I showed her the X-Qpack and she really liked it and has decided she wants one.

Does anyone here have direct experiance with these cases and what are your thoughts. Any insight to them aside from the usual glowing reviews I have read online. (I dont trust mfgr. sponsered reviews further than I can throw them).

Also, are there any really good deals out there for them? Best price I could find was $84 + some untold amount of shipping from amazon, but they refer you to tigerdirect (*shudder*) but I want to avoid buying from td as much as possible.

Any input would be mucho appreciated.
 
Teh General opinion here is that the qpack kicks ass. NewEgg, has pretty much every qpack you can think, of windowed and not. Search around the forum, at least 10 people have qpacks.
 
Its an awesome case for the price and size, but I wish it was alittle more sturdy. Its not like I throw it around, but I can almost feel it flexing when i carry it around.

very well built sff case....like half the people that use this sff forum have one. I love mine :)
 
Decent build quality.

Ugly as sin, and bigger than you'd expect...but it serves the purpose. mATX is DEFINITELY a *hell* of a lot more convenient than full-size ATX.

The PSU (even the "new" one) does blow serious ass, though. Definitely buy a replacement. Which, presuming you remember to get a Lite-On DVD drive, is no problem - even full-sized ATX PSUs will fit in the case.

Why the bad feelings for the PSU. Has it failed on anyone? I was happily suprised when I found out they come with a PSU, and at the price these things are going for, I was expecting it to be a nice one at that. Something along the lines of an antec or an enermax. Is this not the case? (pardon the pun) :D
 
It's very rare that the power supply that comes with any case is high quality. The Q-Pak is no exception.
 
i built one and wasn't impressed.

it is thin and not sturdy.. when i put it all together the case rocked.. like all 4 feet didn't touch the desk at the same time.. i tried it on several flat surfaces, so it wasn't a warped desk or anything..

it is much bigger than i thought.. it just is..

the thumbscrews on the back are shit.. and i could only use 1 by hand.. the other 2 needed a screwdriver...

the inside has many sharp edges and i really had to work to not cut my hands..

i thought the "drive cage" was a piece of shit and had to bend it to make it not rattle..




there were a few good things i guess..

purty blue lights for those that care..


i was no impressed, but i have used much worse cases.. if you have to go into it often to modify and change things, then get a friendlier case.. if you are just building it.. and it will rarely if ever be opened, then you would be fine..

Aspire is pretty much the bottom of the PSU barrell. They are known for flat-out lying about their PSU specs, and there are rumors that they recently switched the sticker on the qpack PSU to give it 30A on the 12v rail instead of 20A without changing anything internally.

I have the qpack psu with me, and the heatsinks are tiny, and the thing got hot as hell when running. The internal fan was also facing the wrong way, and I had to go in there and adjust that.

i got the blue one at newegg two fridays ago when it was 79 shipped. I didnt think it was going to be that big. I have two shuttles and the qpack is huge. I have to move my desk around to fit it on the desk.

I like the looks and it was easy to install. I have the psu going and mine seems to be a good one. All the voltages are good and not low like others say.

Its been going for about a week now and Im using it as my work pc.

Mine runs a little hot but i have a 37cfm fan @24 db with a ax8 or what ever replaced the ax7. It was as long as my ccfl light so it barely fit on the side.
 
had mine for ~3 weeks now. first mATX i've built. very cool - however i wish i would have bought one without the windows - i've had to take the case top off several times for whatever reason and all 3 windows are scratched up. it's very easy to do that.

i do miss not having to worry about space when i want to throw in a harddrive whenever i want to, but the SFF is definitely worth it.
 
I don't think it is flimsy at all..in fact mine is pretty sturdy. Keep in mind that it is aluminum so you can only get but so sturdy. The case is designed to be light weight and easy to carry and to save space. It easily satisfies all of this and has a few extras. Well thought out case and very nice.
 
I've had mine for a couple of months now, and I have no complaints. No, it's not as sturdy and well designed as the Lan-LI I paid $300.00 for about 6 years ago. It also costs less than $100.00 with a power supply. As for the power supply, I understand that the unit is different, depending on if you get the aspire case or the chenming. Mine is an aspire, and that's the only one I can speak on. I'm running an A64 on the MSI rS480 board with 2gb ram, a dvd-r, 2 sata hard drives and an ATI 850xt-pe, it all runs fine. I play EQ2, CS:S and BF2, all of which play fine with no more stability problems than would be normal for a game. I'm not overclocking, so I don't know how well it holds up to boosting voltages, but it seems perfectly fine for my purposes.
 
Just bought the all black with no windows Asipre Qpack from Newegg tongiht. I'll let you know how I like it when it gets here.

Parts I'm putting in it:

Jetway Pro
AMD 64 3000+ w/TTsilent 939.
4x 512mb PC3200
2x 120gb hdd ( IDE... they are hold-overs from my old rig )
BenQ 1640
Lite-On CDR/DVD combo drive
6600gt PCI-e w/ Zalman 700cu
DigiFire w/Firewire sound card ( The onboard audio is actually really good, so I may go that route sometime down the line.)
( will be switching out he stock fan, as I don't like lights. )
all running on my Tagan 480W PSU. ( I changed the fans in it, so it is inaudible )

If the PSU doesn't fit correctly with everything in it. I will mod it to fit. I am also going to shorten the cables to custom lengths. So the shortest cables witll be about 4 inches to give some play to the optical drives.

Not a killer rig by any means, but it gets the job done that I need and want.

It's....very mediocre. It is really heads and tails above regular integrated audio - for example, blows away Soundstorm - but I recently put in an Audigy 2zs Platinum, and it is AUDIBLY better sounding. I'd tested in another post elsewhere that proved it didn't amount to any kind of performance increase, but the software the 2zs Plat comes with is pretty sweet, and the quality is hard to beat.

Note that the front panel audio connectors do NOT turn off the 'rear' speakers on the Jetway Pro. IE., you plug a headphone in and you just get audio to the headphone as well as the speakers - it's not either/or. And there is no facility to mute just the rear speakers, or change the sound output to the front panel device. You have to actually TURN OFF your speakers. Which is sort of annoying.

It's definitely good enough for regular use - but you might find yourself interested in those Soundblaster X-Fi cards sooner than you'd expect....

Thanks for the heads-up. As I am often between speakers and headphones during the same sit-down time at the computer. That is good to know ahead of time.

I am wierd in the fact that I will never pay more than $50 for a sound card. It just isn't that important to me. Plus I have a personal boycott against Creative.

Well, the Chaintech AV-710 might just be what the doctor ordered, then.

Less then $50 (last I checked), and it's the rather awesome Envy24 chipset.

Plus, it has regular plain-Jane front panel audio headers on it that the X-QPACK would plug the front panel ports into *just fine*. It's been a while since I've used it, but I'm damn near 100% sure that there was an option in the Envy24 control panel to mute the 'rear' speakers when the headphone jack is plugged in.

(In any case, the Envy24 control panel and settings *blows away* the Realtek ALC880)
 
The Jetway boards audio seems fine for me. It really isnt on par with the other dedicated sound cards out there, but it works perfect for gaming.
 
I've had the Chaintech AV-710.........loved the card. I think my Azalea onboard audio blows it away. I couldn't believe the difference in sound on my cheapie X530's from the Via Envy to the Azalea.

I have the VIA Envy and the x-530 also. the jetway mobo i'm planning to get also has azalia audio. So wow...azalia actually sounds better than the via envy? :confused:
 
Try it and let me know what you think just to confirm I'm not crazy. I'm no audiophile, but with my AV710, I would get distortion when I cranked the volume too high. I can crank the Azalea to full blast and not get any distortion.

yeah. so true and this is coming from someone who owns both a x-530 and z-640. the x-530 definitely sounds better than the z-640 and way less distortion + it can tolerate higher volumes w/o sounding staticy IMO. :cool:
