I got a 60mm -> 80mm fan adapter for an old hsf a while back, & ended up using the screws on my AX7 a bit later on. Well, now I need to buy replacement screws. Problem is, I can't find the f*%@kers anywhere. I've tried the local Lowe's & Ace to no avail. I also just got done Googling & searching through these forums w/no luck.

What I'm looking for: #4 1 1/4" pan head sheet metal screws

So I figured I'd post & see if my luck improved. Any of you guys got a source for the odd screw that you need for your project(s)?
 
I browsed briefly through Bolt Depot (http://www.boltdepot.com) and McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com) and didn't see anything that exactly meets your specifications. Maybe you could look further, but I didn't see anything.

I did, however, see plenty of #4 sheet metal pan screws in 1" length. Is that insufficient?
 
You do know that you can use any screw or bolt though right? It doesn't necessarily ahve to be the same type that came with the fan.

I might be missing something in your post though.
 
Is there any reason you need that exact screw?
 
Needs to be that diameter to fit thru the holes in the fan adapter, & needs to be that length to secure the fan to it. I've also found plenty of the 1" variety, but they're only long enough to make it thru the fan itself (the tip of the screw doesn't get into the adapter). The fan itself could easily fit a #6 diameter screw through it, but the damn adapter is just big enough for a #4 :-/

So 1" is the longest you can find those screws? Are there no 2" ones that you could cut down?
 
Why not just use zipties or superglue? Both would work fine... If you REALLY want to use screws, how about cutting those screws down do only ~1cm long and just using the bottom screw hole on the fan (the one that is directly above the hole in the fan duct) You may have to drill out/cut off the top screw hole, but it would be secure and easily removable.
 
Go to your local hardware store and ask them for threaded rod, comes in 6-32 and 4-40 the real good hardware stores will often have metric threaded rod. Comes in 18" lengths if I remember correctly.
 
Just attatch it through the bottom set of holes on the fan. Then you can get away with really short screws.
 
My source it the "Box-O-Crap" in my basement. Fifteen years of working with computers are in there, its more a "Room-O-Crap" than a box. But that's beside the point.

Either use shorter screws and the bottom fan holes, superglue, rubber bands, zip ties, or possibly those anti-vibration rubber thingys youstick through the screw holes.
 
heh I steal my screws from work. Working at a computer store we have tons of computer screws and other types of screws.

Just go to any computer store, and ask for some screws, they'll usually give them to you free. Hell we do that all the time at our store.
