Your Opinions On This PC??

What alternate universe do you come from where a 6800 GT is 'weak'? If you consider going from 6800GT to 6800 Ultra for about $200 more, and getting <15% performance boosts is a good deal, say hi to Bizarro Epicenter for me.

Also, any Audigy 2 is a ripoff. Onboard nForce 4 audio is amazing; I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't in need of extreme high end recording.

Ahh i did make a mistake with the audigy 2, i meant the audigy 1 zs gamer. Thats what i have had in my pc for a couple years now with no problems.

As for the 6800GT, he wasnt a gaming rig, why buy all top of the line stuff like that FX 55, and then buy some kind of cheap video card when you are spending money to get the best performance on the block? That just makes no sense. Its like wanting a huge meal, but getting a medium drink and medium fries with it, intead of the large.

Now i have a thermaltake xaser III case, one of the screwless ones, and i know for one fact that it SUCKS with the newer video cards like the 6800ultra and the x800 and x850 because you literally have to cut a notch out of your sliding PCI locks to get the damned things in. I built a system for my buddy in which we had to do this with one of the double slot cards or we couldnt get the damned thing in. But id still buy the 6800 BFG ultra OC over a 6800gt anyday. $449 at newegg, or zipzoomfly.com.... not sure which one had it for this price last week when i checked. I think zipzoomfly.com.

Untill now i had never heard of an Audigy ZS Gamer. Ill look into it.

Oh aye i left out the monitor.... im not buying one, i already have a 19" Relisys TE988 which can reach resolutions up to 1600x1200 i think. And i aint changin it :D

Cheers m8.

Yea look into the Audigy ZS Gamer... its not the audigy 2, its the audigy 1... I think they actually had a helluva deal on the audigy 2 zs gamer awhile back on zipzoomfly.com... i think it came with like 4 full games as well... it may have been like a platinum edition, so it was like $100, but it had like a $35 rebate as well. Dropped the price down to the plain vanilla zs gamer new, so you got 4 free games for nothing, and saved like $5 or something.

I have a nice viewsonic 19 inch now that i use, but i have an old 17 inch optiqeust that i dont use anymore, it gets 1600x1200 easy, but i started getting some flicker after 5 years of use so i got a new one. Then i set it up for a buddy to try out, and the flicker was gone, i just had some refresh rate problems with BF1942 at the time. Still a great monitor that i have as a backup now...lol... but id get a new one if i was splurging like you are, if it is over 4 years old anyhow. Just my opinion though. Good luck with your system though, you have some great advice on it here, no doubt about it.

You must be high as a kite to have posted something that stupid.

The highest-end cards on the market provide about 10-15% faster performance for HUNDREDS of dollars more. When you can run every game at 1280x1024 with High settings and 4xAA and 8xAF at 60 FPS with a 6800GT or X800XL, what the hell is the point of having 'top of the line'?

People who spend $800-900 on a CPU alone probably have some "discretionary income" to throw around. If they want to spend hundreds of dollars for a few extra FPS, who cares? You don't have to call what they do "stupid" just because you wouldn't do it. I agree with you. X800XL/6800GT is plenty good for me and you, but then again so is a A64 3200+ OC'd a little. Some people just like to have a bigger e-penis.

I retain the right to criticize their decision. It may annoy them but if it pushes them in the right direction and they save a few hundred bucks, my work is done. ;)

read the rest of the thread, foo. Every time a money-saving idea such as getting a 3500 CPU or cheaper RAM has been welcomed - just because someone has the money to buy the top-notch stuff, doesn't mean they were born with brains they could fit in an eggcup; everyone wants to save money, regardless of their income, so why should he buy ultra-low latency corsair crap and a 6800U OC when a GT or XL can equal (or in the case of the XL,
actually beat the 6800U in FarCry fps at 1280x1024 for half the price? That's just silly

You've hit the nail on the head mate. Even though i can afford a 6800 ultra and FX-55 doesnt mean that its my best option to go for these. Ive welcomed any comments that mean me saving money - coz the way i look at it is.. if i save £300 on the processor.. then that could be spent on double the ram (2048) and a nice big 300GB hdd etc etc.

I didnt mean this thread to become an arguing match... i was just hoping for good advise from experienced people. And i have got that and im really grateful.. but its the arguing necessary??

Thanks again to every1 who posts. Im thankful to you all :p
