I am in the processing of spec'ing a NAS/Fileserver.

What is you guys opinion on this setup? (I am shooting for reliable but cost effective)

Setup will run in RAID5

Cost comes out to around $1350-$1400 USD for this setup...

This will house my media and some important business documents...the documents will be backed up to external drives / jump rives.

ReadyNAS are pretty good units if you're looking for a complete solution, I would on the other hand have a look at Synology (with Intel CPUs) if there's a much of a difference in price.

Seems expensive for what it is, but its probably pretty simple to do. Should work fine. Not very expandable.

RAID5 isn't very popular on this forum anymore because of the (small) chance of unrecoverable errors while rebuilding.
 
What would people suggest for what I am looking to do then? I was going to build a ZFS setup with Nappit etc but I dunno if I want to spend the time haha.
