Ok guys, vote, then post your reasoning if you feel like it. But please keep this flame free. No calling each other names like fanboys and what not. Thanks!

ATI 423 PCI-EXPRESS with 512MB DDR-3 RAM (est. Sept-Oct)

I shudder at the thought of seeing its price. :( But oh man... half a gig of video RAM... ... that would equate to no lag during 100-man raid in EQ2.

Oh yeah, I picked nVidia because I ordered the BFG 6800 GT for $300 at BestBuy [deal dead]. Purely a buying decision based on Performance per Price.

That's a great price! Congratz on the bargain! Most people would say why get 512MB when games barely use 128MB. Well, I am assuming valve and id have a lot of surprises for us. Even SOE, with EQ2. So when all those three games are out, I'll buy whatever plays them all the best instead of losing money now to play one really good game.

512MB won't be needed for a long time.

undecided, i just bought my first ati card so im new to ati but i was a long time nvidia buyer. i skipped generations between upgrades, i went from a tnt2 ultra -> quadro 2 pro -> geforce fx 5600ultra. so ill probobly skip the x800's and 6800's cards and get whatevers next.

im always on a budget, so i'll probably wait till pci-e comes out, save until it does, then gorge on what cards are dealt.

People have been getting their orders cancelled. Would have been nice though.

I'll have one if best buy ships it. :p My order wasn't cancelled.

Same :)

Let's hope they stick by their "preorder lowest price guarantee."

To my knowledge there have been no cancelled orders yet of the 6800GT at Best Buy, unless you ordered more than 1, in which case the system automatically cancels your extra orders (it was a one card per person sale). Also, apparently if your credit card didn't authorize (such as because of improper billing address), your order was cancelled. However, even my friend who ordered 45mins before the link was pulled still has his order intact, so Best Buy so far seems to be doing an admirable job of sticking to their original price. We'll see if they continue to do so :)

I have a 9700PRO and I am going to run it until it can't keep up with modern games at 1024Xwhatever. I dont see the poing of 1600X1200 if my monitor runs it at 60Hz.

I bought a 9600 pro 256 megs about 4 months ago, havent had a problem with anything ive thrown at it so I see no need to upgrade.

GT is simply better than X800 Pro.

Thanks for trying to start flaming in the thread, who in the hell was even talking about an x800pro vs gt? IF you are going to flame at least do it with fuel. The x800pro is on par and sometimes better than the 6800u. The GT has good overclocking ability, maybe.

So no, it's not simply. It may be with some overclocking on par with the x800pro, in some games.

Buying ATI. 9800Pro to be exact. Why be bleeding edge? I play EQ, Far Cry and 1942. What else do I need?

oh man, please don't turn this into yet another ATI vs. nVidia thread....there's enough of those already.

i am undecided...for one, because i will have to save up enough money to buy one or the other, and two, the amount of time taken to save up will give me the opportunity to read reviews/personal experiences about BOTH cards, allowing me to make the best purchase based on price/performance (not to mention that they will both probably be cheaper by the time i have enough money saved :D )

IN MY OPINION the GT is better than the X800 Pro and last I checked this thread was asking for MY OPINION. Seeing how that is the price range I am looking at, I compared those two cards. In reality though, you most likely wouldn't be able to tell difference between the two.

Don't turn this into another ATI vs NVIDIA thread? You look at the poll?

yeah, i did look at the poll....

it says "Your next video card will be:", not "Which is better, ATI or nVidia?"

exactly, I think he has a comprehension problem. shrug. Maybe he misread it.

That's the topic, not the poll. Is it really hard to figure out that a poll asking you to choose between ATI or NVIDIA is a NVIDIA vs. ATI thread.

The topic and poll was "what will your next video card be" Ati or Nvidia or Undecided.

You replied: The 6800gt is simply better than the x800pro.

wtf? No one was asking which was better, if you want to give an opinion of which is better do in the other 500 threads that are pitting the cards against each other. This was just to see who was buying which brand.

It's not asking you to say which one is better. Its asking you what you're going to spend your money on.

If I were today buy this generation, it would be a 6800GT, but since I feel I don't need to upgrade this round, it will prolly be later in the year, when PCI-Express is ready to go.

Im ganna squeeze every dying breath out of this 9800 Pro. I usually skip 2 generations between cards. My first card was a ATI 7200. Now i got a 9800 Pro. I'll buy again during the 2nd generation of pci-express (3rd gen for ATI)

no idea... dont think im upgrading till the next gen of pci express cards.

Had to laugh when poster said "no fanboy stuff" or whatever because this poll is practically a fanboy poll by definition. I was expecting to see cards to vote on, not cardmakers.

I find it hard to believe someone could make a statement in this poll that is pro-company and not card, and NOT sound fanboyish. I'd like to see one.

I just didn't want to resort to calling names or have any flaming. I think we can all respect each others purchases without bashing each other, the reviews are out there for which is better than the other in what areas. This poll was to see what brand people will be buying next as an upgrade.

I choose ATI.

why?

they cheated on drivers, got caught, and apologized and backtreaded.

NVidia got caught and just said 'so what?'

I liked both companies the same until that... and frankly i dont like 2 slot cooling solutions unless I choose to put them on myself, although I know that 2 slot is going to become defacto eventually.

9800 pro 128MB 256membus (got this card when it was the top of the line, $400)
I vote with the money in my purse. I vote for who I think is the better company. Frankly i miss 3Dfx...

I'll be going with whoever has the best cards on the market at the time. Right now it would be ATI, 2 years ago it would be NVidia. In another couple years, who knows?

CreedAMD, Do know I'm not calling you a fanboy... I don't know your intention in simplifying the poll so much. Of course, name-calling and such is undesirable. It's just when I look at the poll, you are picking a company and not a card. Here is where I see comments like "Nvidia cheats and has bad IQ" and "Ati's drivers crash all my games and make baby jesus cry."

When picking cards I see people looking outside the box and considering other factors. Like "I really like ATI's line up but the 6800GT looks nicer at the $400 price point." etc.

Mind you either poll type would involve fanboys and ranting and hence IMO I wouldnt have put it up in either iteration. But that's just my opinion. Point is in that format it is almost unavoidable in the question, instead of because it's just the way things go.
