I'm pretty bad. My CPU progression is just as bad as my GPU progression is, if not worse. Though my rig is a bit dated now so it looks like I've calmed down a bit lately.

That's a lot for sure, but one question, how do you keep such detailed information about each card you buy? I bet I've owned 15-20 cards in my PC lifespan and I'm lucky if I can remember the models much less brands and specific versions.

Most of that comes from memory. The only ones that didn't are the Diamond SpeedStar 24 Tseng Labs ET4000 ISA, and the Cirrus Logic cards but I remembered enough about them to look up the exact model numbers. Everything from the Diamond S3 Vision 964 on up is all from memory and memory alone. Interestingly enough, the Cirrus Logic and Diamond SpeedStar cards were the only ones I didn't buy new with my own money. They were second hand when I got them.

I remember pretty much every CPU I've ever owned as well. Oddly I don't recall all the motherboards I've owned due to the fact that I was updating those even more frequently than graphics cards. And honestly, I probably would remember most of those if I hadn't started doing motherboard reviews. And I do remember a lot of them, just not all of them. It's also difficult to track which one's I've owned vs. which one's I've reviewed at some point. There is some overlap as I've owned many boards I've reviewed as well.

I have an excellent memory. I retain all kinds of stupid information. Sometimes things I wish I could forget.

I will be building a new system by the end of the year. It'll be the first time that I'll be using the same GPU brand twice. Which will be MSI.

My first couple computers didn't have what I would consider a "GPU" so we'll start with the first GPU equipped one:
Riva 128 4MB
3dfx Voodoo2 8MB - Wow.
Diamond Viper TNT 2 Ultra 32MB - First AGP card. Loved this card, got it when I was big into Half-Life multiplayer...along with a high speed internet. Total domination.
Asus GeForce 256 V6800 32MB - Ooh Hardware T&L Totally meh at the speeds this thing ran.
Gainward Geforce 3 Ti500 64MB - Not sure why I got this, it sucked.
Nvidia GeForce 4 440 Go 64MB - Had a laptop as my main PC for a while.
Evga GeForce 6800 vanilla 256MB - Yeah, it unlocked.
Evga GeForce 7800 GT 256MB - First PCI Express card!
ECS GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB - G92 core
BFG GTX 285 1024MB
XFX Radeon HD 5850 1024MB
Asus Radeon HD 6950 2GB - Unlocked to 6970
Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2GB - Tried some crossfire, but it just didn't work out. Sold this card and kept the 6950 since it OC'd better and ran cooler.
XFX Radeon HD 7950 3GB - Best OC'ing card I've had in years (>40% Core OC).

S3 Savage4 32MB - PCI - Bought this for my Windows 98 Gateway computer - I was just getting into learning about PC components at the time, so I don't know how this stacked up against the Voodoo series.

A long lapse until I finally built my own machine....

Diamond Multimedia ATi 9600XT - (With free Half Life 2 Coupon!)
eVGA Nvidia 6800GT - (This card was so awesome in its day!)
MSI Nvidia 7900GT
XFX ATi Radeon 5870

I've purchased quite a few low-end cards for basic builds, but I don't remember the brands or model numbers.
