I tend to stick with mobile gaming, since I'm on the road a lot. But I tried tying myself down for a bit in the middle there. The first card was when I convinced my parents that our Compaq with an Athlon 3200+ needed better graphics. Finally got my own computer after that when Dell had that $750 off Inspiron notebooks over $1500. Bought the baseline 9300 for $750 and I've been computer gaming ever since. Had a 1215N with Ion 2, but I don't really consider that a part of the progression.

My memory is kind of fuzzy on the order of and specifics of what my family had in the early days of my life, but once I started picking out parts I can remember more clearly.
We had:
3Dfx Voodoo 2 - I remember when my brother got this, it was so amazing to me.
Two kinds of the ATI 3D Rage Pro
Some ATI All-in-Wonders (no idea what they were)
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro - Did a LOT of gaming on this one, and still have it inside a (unplugged) machine, really dependable good card for me
eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 320mb - mistakenly purchased, meant to get 512 version, but ended up holding onto it ever since anyway, so quiet at idle, sort've noisy at load
XFX Radeon 4850 1GB - One of the best purchases I ever made, this is when I really began paying attention to tech news/reviews and researching what was the best bang-for-your-buck card. This card was eventually sold to my cousin who still uses it in a machine.
XFX Radeon 5870 - I was so pumped when these were announced, I bought it just a few days after launch. My brother brought his own to my house once and we did Crossfire and laughed like idiots. This was eventually traded to a friend for:
XFX Radeon 5850 - Got this and $100 from the friend...right before the GeForce 460 came out and all the subsequent cards that demolished the 5870's $400 value. I knew the price drops were coming and tried to minimize my loss. So yeah, I still took a dive with my 5850 (Newegg has it for $145 right now after rebates/coupons/gift cards, holy crap), but whatever lol.
eVGA GeForce 250 512mb - First card I ever outright hated. Incredibly loud. I was immensely disappointed in it, it even looked like it was put together in haste. I bought it for my fathers machine and we ended up selling it a year later. Piece of crap if you ask me, the performance was there and that was it.
XFX Radeon 5770 Single Slot Edition - This is what replaced the GeForce 250 above. Single slot because my father likes to jam in as many expansion cards as possible into his computers over time. We almost purchased a fanless 5750, but it was too much $$ and there were too many space issues (even looked at a fanless 5770 but the heatsink was just too enormous). This card is dead silent. Absolutely fantastic card, one of my favorite purchases ever.
BFG GeForce 280 OC - A gift to me from my brother when I built my secondary machine. It is confusing though, stickers, online ect say its a 280, but CPU-Z and CPUID Hardware view it in every way as a GeForce 260, 896mb memory and all. Anyone familiar with this issue? Regardless, I really like how quiet this card is at idle and load, and it folds pretty decently too!
Dunno if anyone wanted a small history behind my list, but I thought it makes it more fun to look at than quickly glancing over someone's list.

I have never owned an ATI card, how sad :( My brother always got ATI cards while I always got Nvidia ones for some reason. I've also never owned a top-level card until now, I've always owned mid-tier or lower.

My favorite card was the Ti4200. The step from the MX to the Ti4200 was mind-boggling to me. Ah, the countless hours of CS and BF1942 :)

If only the internet speeds (provided in the USA) evolved as fast as graphics cards, processors, etc.... my cable internet I have now is slower than the cable internet I had 10 years ago, and it costs more than it did back then too :mad:

I've had more driver issues with ATI cards but I've had more NVIDIA cards actually die on me. Usually from overclocking but I've had at least one DOA NVIDIA card. I went through two PNY GeForce 4 Ti 4600's overclocking and one BFG Technologies GeForce GTX 280 was DOA. I've also seen tons of PNY GeForce 4 Ti 4200's die. I had 32 of them at work and in 3 months all 32 died. This was due to defective VRM's and capacitor issues.

That reminds me, my first ti4200 had leaky capacitors. I worked in Milpitas like 5 miles from Gainward in Fremont. I wonder how their leaving the US market is working out for them. Great service, I emailed them, showed up with the card in hand, they handed me a new retail box and I walked back out to my car.

I've visited Antec and Corsair in the same neighborhood.

I can't really blame them, everyone was having cap issues. I forget which company it was that made the bad caps, but a bunch of the mobo and graphics manufacturers got burned.

With a few exceptions, I've had cards from each major manufacturer in each generation since the 3D era started. The oldest working card I still have is an 8-bit ISA ATI EGA Wonder. The oldest working 3D card I have is a Western Digital Tasmania 3D, based on a Yamaha 3D graphics chip, not DX compatible. It predates Voodoo Graphics and was released around the time of the first S3 ViRGE 3D card.
