Just wanted to know the situations that people have been in with thereprocessor and your experience in the RMA process, did they take yours or not, was there visual damage and some how you were still able to RMA it, any strange no returns( of your CPU that is), things like that. Thx

I've only had to RMA one processor to AMD out of the hundreds of systems I've built. I sent it out overnight and received the replacement processor within 7 days. It had no visible defects (cracked core or flamed out). It simply was a dud. If you flamed out your processor (scorch marks) or cracked the core, they will NOT RMA it.

not true...my tbird 1.1 got fried. visible burn mark. RMA'd. they didnt' have any tbirds left, but i settled with a duron 1.1.

i had to rma two stock heatsinks cause the fans were defective.

all were went to me within 7 days

They are old processors. If you try to RMA an Athon XP (onboard diode) with a flamed out core, it's not going to happen. Unless you can convince them that your board doesn't support the onboard diode. That's what it's there for now, to prevent flameouts. On a properly working mobo/cpu (Athlon XP), the motherboard should shutdown the power if the XP goes over a certain temperature.

which ones dont?
I thought all of them did...

I'd like to know just incase I ever have to use that excuse... :D

Well I'm going to ttry to RMA my 2000+, I chiped the edge of the CPU but it is hardly noticable, does tis sound like this CP can get RMAed, and also this Flameout thing do you mean OCing, will they take a CPU that's been OCed?

If it's barely noticeable, they might RMA it. If you tell them that you overclocked your CPU,THEY DEFINITELY WON'T RMA YOUR CPU.

I have just slightly chipped the core on about 3 athlon socket a cpu's... havent tryed to RMA one yet... but I know how easy it is

Well , my AMD RMA is a nice one :D. My Barton 2500 took a dump on me so I had to RMA it. They didn't have any 2500's instock so they replaced my 2500 with a Barton 2800. So ya , I like AMD rma , it's nice and fast too.

I had the same exact experience. Sent back a dud 2500 and recived a 2800 in return. I've had nothing but good experiences from AMD's Customer Service.

I've only had to RMA Intel CPUs before ;)

*runs to get flame suit*

I RMA'ed a 2100+ that had visible burn marks on it from an electrical storm accident. I received the new CPU 5 days later.

Well, there's a difference between frying the CPU overclocking and an electrical storm burnout. I'm sure that they've had to deal with a CPU getting fried by a PSU kicking the bucket.
