What OCs are most of you getting on your 4850s?

My OC artifacts on 670/1045... Considering exchanging it for another one at Bestbuy.
 
Well, I got it from Bestbuy. I am allowed to return it either way, but still want the card.
 
oh brother u want that much out of it just spend a little more and get a 4870. That or put a after market cooler on the 4850.
 
Why should I go aftermarket cooling when my card is idling at 45c at 40% fan speed?

And since when is a 2-3% OC asking to much? Bestbuy has a 30day return policy either way, even if I decide I just don't want it anymore.

I didn't know it was suddenly frowned upon to exchange something when even they said it is perfectly fine.
 
Running 690/1135, I just did the auto tune thing in the CCC and it came back with 690/1180 but I was getting artifacts. Running 65% on the fan.
 
Ive heard that these cards do have lower vcore than the 4870s so it may take a bump to get them to the same speeds. Ill try OCing mine as soon as I somehow fix windows installer so I can install the fan control utility. Farking Vista.
 
I have one running at 660/1050, from stock speeds, it increases my Crysis fps from 36 to 41, 1280 x 1024, 4x aa, all high. Speed is at 45 percent, when I push it to 670/1070, it overheats after about 3 runs in the Crysis benchmark. This is all with stock cooler of course.

Btw: if crossfire is disabled. does the second card still run at 500/700?

They don't guarantee that it will work when you OC it. Plus your running a 7 percent oc not 2-3. Btw, I'm surprised you get 45c with 40 fan speed when I get 60c with 45 fan speed.
 
Well, 7% with artifacts :) Sorry, it was 48c with 40% fan speed. I just got the cards exchanged (they didn't even ask why, surprising that BB was helpful!), and this seems to idle at the same speed.

Going to reinstall the drivers now because it's acting a bit weird now (with the second card).
 
700/1110, but it will crash out once it heats up. I got CCC to accept those clocks right after turning it on.

I needs me an S1 badly!

Yes, if crossfire is disabled, the second card is just idling. Just tested it.

So is it the temps or the volts that are causing the cards to crash? I don't see how the temps are seeing as how my load is topping in the 70s (compared to people idling in the 80s last week).
 
I tested 700/1125 all night long, did alright. I am keeping my card cool with high fan speeds though.

85% because that is the perfect level where I can't hear it over my CPU fan (Delta Triblade high speed). When I hit 90% it picks up a high pitched tone and I can hear it over my other fans. That 5% makes all the difference lol. I also run with no side on my case and a big fan blowing in on low.

Isn't the 4850 a binned 4870? Should be able to hit 700+ easily. Maybe with a better cooler ofc.
 
Probably not even binned... They aren't able to make all that many 4870s because of memory shortage and there is a much higher demand for the 150 dollar 4850s anyway.
Those people hitting 900 though are using pretty high vcore. Seems like a bit over 800 is what you can hit with totally save voltages.
 
I slapped a VF900(from my 'old' 8800 gts :) ) on mine last night and had no problems at 700/1100 for the half hour or so I played Assassins Creed. Idle temps were around 39-40 C and went up to 56 C under load. Quite the improvement from the stock cooler that would idle me around 75 C and load out at 85 C.
 
So most people hitting the higher OCs are volt modding their cards (in other works, the "low" OC I'm hitting is normal for stock voltages)?

Just curious if the cards I got were "lemons" or that's just the norm with stock cooling/volts.

You didn't get a lemon being as the card works as advertised but I do understand when you say that your cards may not OC as much as the other guy.

When I got my card I dabbed some OCZ Freeze on it and that lowered the temps to 65c idle and 80c load. This is with 700/1100mhz and not using the "profile" fan trick...with that I hover close to 45c with 70c load.
 
Quick question though. If I swap out identical cards (VT 4850 for another 4850), should I reinstall the drivers as well or no need?

Drivers are sometimes picky and cause problems even when there shouldn't be one. I guess the best thing was just to try it and find out, which I did :)

Either way, seems that Visiontek cards do hit an OC wall around 660/1050-1070 which is from the lower stock voltage in the cards.
 
Im running a visiontek as well and im hitting 700mhz without a problem, but im also running a zalman vf1000 and hitting load temps of 43C.
 
I could easily hit more than 660/1050, I just don't want to run my fan speed over 50 percent. Even at 50 percent, its the loudest thing in my case but I give credit to my other parts on that one.

Yeah, above 50% sounds like a jet engine. 45% keeps me idling at 45c, so I'm fine with that :). Now if I could just get my OC pumping a bit higher, although I don't even bother OCing above 45% fan speed because I can't stand the noise (probably explains my low OC wall as well).
 
725/1025 using bios flash so the volts are higher . visiontek from bestbuy.

before the bios flash i was getting 675 on core.

gonna push the care more when im done with my finals.
 
Thats my next step as well i havent vmodded or bios hacked the card yet im still running stock bios.
