I MIGHT retire my 5649 x58 for haswell, if the efficiency, IPC and motherboard features/improvements are perfect. But its tougher justifying an upgrade from a 800$ hex core than it is from a 300$ quad.

I play World of Warcraft for 3000+ minutes per week. The game is absolutely, completely CPU limited even with my 2500K @ 5Ghz. I plan to upgrade to haswell rather quickly. Hopefully then I won't drop down to ~45fps in 25 man raids.

Do you work or just do this game all week long? That is a serious gaming habit. But if you are happy, then so be it.

Yes I run my own computer repair service and do pretty good business. I definitely spend enough time in-game to justify a CPU upgrade though.

I am a Sandy-nista.

The processors will continue to be great, but Z87 motherboards are on probation.

LGA 775: What is dead may never die. heh

I am not upgrading from my i7 970. Although I may consider upgrading the Q9500 based htpc. And the reasons to upgrade would be to save power and to sell the old rig while I still can get money for it.

Depends on pricing/power usage really.

I'm pretty happy with my phen2-940 (linux desktop), phen2-1090T (gaming), and core i3 (test box). Even my servers are old (Xeon x3330 and phen2-965).

What is nice on the AMD side is the ecc support pretty much everywhere. Is desktop haswell going to have this? (I like to retire my old desktop(s) to become home servers)

WoW. I didnt think there would be that many so far upgrading to haswell from SB/IB.
Haswell must really be good!? :)

I think its more of upgrade itch. Also if you sell your current motherboard + CPU what do you expect the cost of upgrading to haswell? I would expect about $100 to $150 US total.

Some people are just enthusiasts, what can I say? Resell value for SB/IB is still pretty damn good too, so the actual costs of upgrading aren't that high when it's all said and done.

I dont sell any comps since I will give them to my kids as upgrades. :)

If they can sell it and only spend that much, it would be decent.
I am going to look at haswell because I can always put my current rig as my backup, since I need one now.

My last upgrade was going from an i7-860 to a i5-2500k. The performance jump was great, but I don't see myself upgrading for some time tbh.

I've been a hard core, dedicated and staunch defender of AMD but I think it's time. I recently jumped to Nvidia out of frustration over the awful AMD drivers and I think I may very well jump to Haswell rather than wait another year for Steamroller. Still not 100% if Haswell will be my first Intel processor since 2001 but odds are, it will be.

Going from Conroe and Wolfdale to Haswell. It's gonna be an expensive year...

For the past couple years I have been building a new system with each new generation of our processors and replacing the system on my desk with a new one. I am really looking forward to what my next system has in store for me.

I'll be going from a Q9450 to an i7-4770k. ITX or mATX for sure...can't decide which one though.

So you're going SB, IB, and now Haswell then?
