On my 7800gt i v-modded the memory a tiny tiny bit. I gained a whole 10MH and after that chocking out to go further. Whenever i do a hard-reset my computer comes on with the cant find-video card beep. Nothing goes on-to the screen. But if i take out and put it back in enough time it workes until the next hard-reset.

WTF is goin on here lol
This is beyond me

I would suggest very carefully removing the v-mod if you soldered it on. Hope that the card works fine after this. It might work for 500 other people, but random things happen when v-modding that can't be explained. You will be lucky if the card is ok. My radeon 9700 pro was v-modded for a few months perfectly before I walked in my room to find my psu and video card smoking. If you remove it and it is fine, just be happy with the card. If not, you might be stuck with the bad card or you could choose the unethical rma.

try increasing the amount of fresh air the card receives to see if it fixes your problem.

those chips need a way to get rid of the extra heat your putting into them.

come on guys hes asking for help dont flame him for doing this....its called exploring....put ur self in his shoes. i would have v-modded my card but im too lazy to get the volt reader thing.

Don't v-mod anything you can't afford to replace. You've likely damaged your card. Of course, v-modding kills your warranty, so...

QFT, too bad even after you wrote this the above posted continued the parade of nonsense. He may have indeed damaged his card, but you can tell that without flaming him.

OP: I wish I could help you but I have not (yet) gotten into v-modding. Pay no attention to the couple of ladies that posted thus far as I am sure someone will have some useful advice...

interesting issue, sounds like the psu's voltage may be drooping? everything is up and running if its just a soft reset... try unplugging hdds and such and see if it occures less frequently

is it possible that you are undervolting the memory by accident?

how much voltage is a tiny bit...

Try putting your ram voltage back to defualt. I had the same exact problem. I know its not related but you could try, seeing that you have a similar setup to mine.

that is an excellent suggestion: does the same thing happen when you have it at default voltage.

Also, maybe the Vmod you did introduced additional capacitance [i.e. the stuff that you may have soldered on] that makes something on the VC go funky?

The bottom line is: engineering is about tradeoffs - are 10 exta MHz worth the hard-reset hassle? If not, then undo the mod.

Thanks for the help guys. But the thing is that is happend once with the mod over the corce of about a week. I thought "hey this cant be good". So i undid it. Now it happends.
I really dont mind that much becuase i only hard-recet thing thing if im changing hardware, as i keep my computer on all day and night for download. I dont plan on changing hardware soon so......

This is my far the weirdest thing ever for my video card.

Is it possible i undervolted it? I no it sound stuiped but im running out of ideas here!

For the record this was a pencil mod on the v-mem.

Only if you solder

They cant trace it if it was a pencil vmod

I would do all the simple things, pull all cards, reinsert, pull power supply connections, reconnect, set bios defaults then reset them and lastly reload the OS. Chances are something got corrupted and these are the after effects which may be very easy to get rid of.

I can tell you if the card still works at all and plays games without artifacts, then it is not damaged.

Belive it or not i tried it in another computer
It didnt work.
So i took a strool back down to my main computer and did one more try and it worked....
Figure....

wasn't it plenty fast stock? an extra 10mhz wont make a bit of change on such a powerful card.

yes it was plenty fast.

Every person that is [H] knows that 10Mh is a big deal.

If "wast it fast enough" holds true then please explain the
7800gtx 512 lol

Again... is it possible i accidently undervolted it or sumtin?

um... no...

10mhz is tiny. going from 1100mhz to 1110mhz will gain you absolutly nothing as far as making games faster..

If "wast it fast enough" holds true then please explain the
7800gtx 512 lol
cuase in that case we're talking about 130mhz on the core and 600mhz or so on the memory? not to mention the extra 256mb local video memory it has..

the only way you can be sure the card is hosed is by taking off the mod and seeing if it works. if it doesnt, then you screwed it up. if it does, be happy you didnt screw it up.

Is that possible....

click....click....cmon there has got to be a spell-check volt mod here sumwhere...........

what he said
what PSU do you have?
