I started folding 3 days ago on one pc and now I have become obsessed and have 3 computers running it full time. I have (1) 1ghz (1) 1.5ghz and (1) 3.2ghz OC to 3.78ghz. I am still not completely sure how the work units are registered but I am assuming that all is working. I have noticed that 1 computer has finished a 400 frame work unit and another finished a 100 frame work unit but they both still show up as "Finsished WU's none". hmmm. I am guessing it takes a while to register or something is wrong with the setup? Anyhow, I am glad to be a part of team 33 and to support a cause which touches too close to home. Thanks [H] for bringing it to me!

folding and folding and folding...

folding and folding and folding...

First off let me say......Welcome!
Now will you tell everybody how/why you started doing this?
The reason being to gather some insight on what got you started......so we can use that info to get others interested!
Glad to see you caught the bug.....and welcome once again! :D

Well it could be drawn out to a very long story but to keep it short I have been coming to this site for advice for years. I thought a couple years ago I was even signed up but just recently when I decided to begin posting again I found that I didn't have an account so I may have been mistaken. I have been a member of several long term forums in the past such as KK, and DTW and a few others over the many years but only one at a time...(usually an obsession). ;) Anyhow seems overtime servers go down, sites get closed, membership goes on a fee basis, or a number of other things. Anyhow not long ago I found myself here! What a better site than this to spend some free time, learn a ton of interesting things, and maybe lend a hand on that slight possiblity I may be of some use.

Anyways, getting to the point of the question, I was reading around and saw how people kept talking about folding and noticed the colored [H] symbols in some sigs. At first I just let it go and blew it off. Eventually it got the best of me and I had to go on a journey to figure out what exactly "folding" was. Three days ago I was lead to the Stanford Folding Site where I read what it was all about. You see, three months ago my 13 yo sister passed away from a diffuse pontine glioma. In essence, brain cancer! You can't imagine the strength and courage she had. What she brought to my family was phenominal. She fought longer than any prognosis we could find. I could just go on and on about her and how many thousands of people she touched but it would probably just sound like rambleing to most. Anyhow, this is my sister's site for anyone that might be interested in knowing more! I just know that if there is any chance that folding might help any one of the millions of sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wifes, or friends than it is worth it to me to invest everything I can to it. What a great cause. And better yet, it is out of the generosity of people like those here that are doing this everyday not expecting anything in return. They don't make claims to pay you to complete WUs or you don't win any cool gadgets for so many points. Sure it is nice to have competition every once and a while but those that are doing it, are doing so because for that slight possiblity that it may make a difference in one child's life, makes it worth all the money, time, and burned out overclocked processors that went into it. My heart goes out to everyone of you tonight that donates your computer to this cause. To me it does make a difference. That is why you got me folding in Team33!...
Fold [H]ard!

Wow. You have a good reason to fold. I started up because I've always been into distributed projects, and saw F@H much more benficial than searching for some stupid alien signals or cracking 64bit rc5 algortihms. It does get quite addicting. I've gone from 6 machines to 10 machines over the past few days. I've never been closely affected by someone that I know having cancer, but it's nice to see the 2.5 years of folding I've done is going toward something. Sorry for your loss but it's great to see you on the team.

Most of us have lost someone very special in our lives. Shaking you're fist at God is pointless. Bitterness only begets hatred. I fold, and I celebrate the lives of those I've lost. Every box I have, bears the name of a special someone.

Welcome to the [H]orde.

A sad story to say the least, sorry for your loss! My condolances to you.

Your story is touching and may be useful to help others see thier way straight and run this on thier rigs. People are always a little nevous about running software on thier pc's that is downloaded from the net. (yet people put cd's that come in the mail or in a cereal box right on the rig without thinking twice) Anyway a storie like this offers validdity to the project because it is heart felt and personal. If you would give permission to use your storie to help sway others, that would be great!
Welcome to the fold Fireplay5!
Here is the link to the cool [H]'s

I definitely don't shake my fist at God. (I would be afraid he would shake back!) ;) Just kidding. In fact, I thank and praise God on a daily basis for his grace and for filling my life with his holy spirit and his joy. Sure, the loss of my sister is tremendous, for none so more than my parents especially. But I feel the truth. I understand and am grateful for the comfort given to me. Pain never completely dies here, but leaves a hollow void that needs to be filled. It is what you fill it with that makes the difference.

If you feel that any of my experiences may persuade others to help join in on the "Crusade for folding" than by all means be my guest. Let me know if you need anything.

Oh yeah, btw... I did get my WU's and points to show up. I guess it didn't connect after finishing the first work unit but after the next one it registered both. I now have 4 WU's finished so it is off to a start. Maybe a slow start but hey, we have the time. Anyhow thanks for the link to the cool H's. I am off to see if I can figure that out now.

Welcome!!

and feel free to let that addiction run wild! :D

Keep on Folding!!

Your story is heartbreaking and inspiring. I am glad to think that as a 'veteran' here [nearly three years] that it never really stops getting me deep down.

For Cheyenne, for my grandfather, for us all.
FOR THE HORDE.

Truly sad story, but its great to see people like you try to do something to keep it happening from others. Thats why I fold, I hate seeing people get messed up by all of these things.

Anyway welcome to the ford, and enjoy your stay. I dont know if it has been mentioned but dont pet the moose, and hollar if you have questions.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but at least you can take consolation in knowing that you are now doing what you can to help others: folding!

Welcome!

i am really sorry to hear about your sister... rest assured that someday things like that will no longer happen.

welcome to the [H]orde... and happy folding!!
