AMD Athlon64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum 54G (nForce3)
Corsair VS512MB400 Value Select 2x512Mb CL 2.5
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6B300S0 300Gb 7200rpm 16Mb S-ATA
GeCube Radeon 9800Pro 128Mb DDR TV-out
17" Samsung 710V LCD
NEC ND-3500 Dual-Layer DVD

This is inside the budget allowed.
This system will be used for video encoding, some gaming and lots of surfing :)p).

Is there anything that could/would/should be changed? Keep in mind the major application would be video encoding of home movies.

Why not save a few bucks and get a AV8? those crazy people here rate it pretty good

If video encoding is a big part of your PC purchase, I'd suggest knocking off a few minute Mhz in your processor selection and upping that RAM to something far more performance worthy. Some nice Corsair XMS or PQI ought to do the trick just nicely. It definitely looks like a sweet system though!

Isn't CPU speed the end all in video encoding? Not ram size/speed? I did look at high performing RAM, and was considering it but I'm not sure if overclocking would be the best way to go though as this box would sit with people not too hardware savvy.

For the Mobo, I like the dual GB LAN on the nforce3. Gives the option of adding another PC to the LAN on occasion without having to build a network. And for the 20 bux difference...

Buying ram rated at tighter timings and running AT those tighter timings is NOT overclocking. They are rated for those timings because they were tested at those timings! :p

Looks good to me.

I agree that when you're building for other people, make it run within specifications, that way there can be no issues of the system locking up or whatnot and you get that phone call in the middle of the night because the computer you overclocked by 50mhz just crapped out.

Anyway, a GB of RAM is fine, I don't really see anything that you should change. Enjoy! :D

True, but do you think I wont overclock given the chance? Running with slower and cheaper RAM takes away the urge to sit there overclocking and tweaking all through the night... again. :p

I'll look into the speed difference encoding video with tighter RAM timings.
