making choices is tough, because you're gonna buy the thing for the first time, and i don't want to regret, and yes, i have read all the similiar threads, so help me out! recommendations are welcome!! (budget = $100)

here are the options:

1. Cooler Master Praetorian
2. Antec Sonata Piano
3. Cooler Master Centurion
4. Antec Super Lanboy

well, i know is only Antec or Cooler Master i have here, any suggestions? i prefer a better cooling system than looks, thanks! :)
 
doesnt the lanboy have 2x 120mm fans?

If it came down to it, i would pull out the generic fans they put in there and get some good panaflos or something...
The sonata looks good and is highly moddable.

the cooler master cases are just normal cases.

Its really up to you, although if you want 120 in front and 120 in back, super lanboy = yours.
 
im really really a newbie, about all the fans and stuff, does those casing have proper air circulation? i mean if there were 2 fans, does fan A blows the cool air from outside into the casing and fan B blows out the hot air out of the casing? is tat how it works? or is it all the fans just blow out hot air?
 
In order to get maximum air circulation, you're going to have to mod any case you'd get, at least a little. I don't know of any cases that DON'T have those stupid "grills" built into them that need cut off, especially for intakes.

It's my understanding that any of the cases you mentioned there are good in that if there's something you don't like, they're very moddable.

Also, the Sonata AND Super LANBoy have dual 120mm fans. Good choice if you're looking for lots of airflow with less noise. I want a Sonata, but I can't justify dropping that kind of cheese on a case.
 
Random thoughts in a random order... :rolleyes:

The SuperLanboy is great. It does have fairly weak 120mm (2 of them) fans in there, but they are near silent.

Also, the hard drives are mounted sideways in the case so the airflow isn't hampered by the cables coming out the back of the drives. Cable management is great. The hard disks are mounted on rubber to reduce vibration. I wouldn't recommend it to someone building their first (or even second) computer, as installation does require a little planning (especially if you're putting 4 hard disks in it).

It comes with a couple of straps for carrying it about. Don't bother with them; they don't work well, they're fiddly and they slip on the case's brushed aluminium finish. They may work on a painted beige steel case, but not with the SLB.

In another thread you mention that you need to transport it. If I were moving my machine about, I would definitely go for a Shuttle sized case.
 
One thing to remember about Panaflo 120mm fans....they're awesome, but 38mm deep. They won't fit in the front of most Antecs, and to put them in the rear requires additional modding. I wouldn't do it without drilling the mount holes slightly wider due to Antec's rubber mount system, then using bolts, rubber washers, and nuts to mount the fan. Pictures of my upcoming mod will show one of these huge beasts mounted in a custom blowhole.

After having three 120mm fans in my case for a week now, I'd say keep the 120mm Antec fans for a bit and monitor temperature in the case before deciding to switch. The Antec fans don't move a ton of air but they are quiet and efficient.
