Dear Abbey I've read Silentpc. I've browsed through andtech and Hard OCP.
I really liked the Modstream, it's cables looked great.
But it only had one lane for a 12v highway
So I looked at the PNPs from TTGI
the 12v amps looked mighty fine
But it still only had just the one lane.
P.S. PS shopping drives me insane.

I'd really like modular....a few choices were obvious...neo power, OCZ and TTGI.
The Neo Power is way over my budget (It's off the table)
The TTGI/Super Flower/Link Depot pnp-450 has 20A on 12v.
Ditto on the OCZ 520 Modstream has 28 amps (I can get this for 90)
But wait, these aren't ATX2.0 compliant.
How important is ATX2.0 compliance? I'd like to think i won't have to buy another PS for
many years to come.
For reference, I'm looking at the following equipment:
Athlon 64 300+
Thermalright xp-90 cpu-heat sink (going to start with a cheap 92mm fan, may go to a quieter fan later)
DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra
Corsair, Mushkin or Crucial Value Ram
GPU will likely be an MSI 6600gt
1 Firewire connection a few USB connections (though mostly not used)
CDRW,
DVDRW
2 HDs (both 7200 rpm)
SB Live (includes the front panel patch bay)
2-4 case fans
I will overclock it, but I don't intend to go to major extremes to do so (up the ram whatever little OC it will do, and turn up the CPU to whatever it will do with).
I need 20 amps. No, I need 24 amps. Wrong, I need 30 amps.
I can get a great deal on a coolermaster 450 for $55.00. I can also get a good deal on an OCZ 520 Modstream for around $93 shipped..
The coolermaster 450 ACLY has 22 continuous amps the the two 12V rails, 12 and 10 respectively, and 34A peak (60 seconds I believe). IT's ATX2.x compliant, it has Active PFC, and is probably the most efficient PSU I've seen on on SPCR (78% for a low and normally at or above 80%)
The modstream has 28Amps max (which may or may not be continuous), but it's one rail. It's also fairly efficient, but no Active PFC.
Of course if I go all the way to the Modstream, then there's also the Fortron Blue Storm, which is also in the same price range and it's ATX 2.0 compliant.
Is atx2.0 worth worrying about? I've actually seen some people claim that 1 12v rail is better than 2.
Anyone know how the wattage/amps on the Coolermaster were calculated (iow, 40c?)
Anyhelp is appreciated, but please don't say get the Neo Power...it's out of my budget.
Any opinions? Is there any reason NOT to get the Cooler Master?
Thanks for your input,
Kevin
