sorry i didn't take many pics along the way, but it's pretty self explanatory to see what little progress ive made so far. i grabbed a G5 case off of ebay with a dent in the back, and bought a motherboard tray from cool cases USA. unfortunately, the motherboard tray was far too wide to fit inside the case, so i had to trim it down a bit for it to fit inside the G5 case. of course, i still retained all the ATX mount holes. after that was done, i placed it inside the case and measured the size of the cutout needed.
here's a few pics so far:
the masking tape is temporary, just test fitting the tray. it's going to sit on the original standoffs in the G5 case, while the motherboard will sit on standoffs placed onto the aluminum motherboard tray.
does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean up the back? right now there's a little gap between my cutout and the back panel of the tray. it's covered by the masking tape now so you can't notice it, but it's a bit rough where these two parts come together. i was thinking some moulding from home depot or some silver tape from a car parts store could do the trick, maybe?
this will be a quick worklog.. i gotta finish this before Sunday since im moving out!
thanks for lookin
