I'm contemplating whether or not I should wait until prices for x800 drop a little or purchase the 9800 pro now...

Definite NO to the Raidmax case & PSU. The case isn't too bad, although ventilation's a bit sketch; the PSU is just shitty.

Consider an Antec case with PSU, like a PLUS 1080 or something. Classy, understated, painless to work in (I tend to lose large amounts of skin inside Raidmax cases), and freaking indestructible. TruePower 430W PSU (MSRP $70?) to boot.

Other stuff looks OK, but get XP Pro, not Home—Home just has too many mental issues. I like Cooler Master's LED fans better, but whatever. Just remember, put the LED fan on the PLUS 1080's blowhole, or else you won't see anything.

On the graphics card, depends on how long you're willing to wait. Always buy your graphics card as late as possible in the upgrade series.

Right, on RAM, are you actually planning to overclock? If not, drop down to normal (Corsair Value Select, Mushkin Basic, Kingston, Apacer, etc.) RAM and save the cash toward graphics card or something.
 
get an antec case with a nice 350 or greater power supply;

and since the processor is oem ur gonna have to get a hsf for it
(i have an amd system and have no clue what one u should get)

everything else looks nice
 
If your doing Digital content creation (aka video encoding/editting), then i would suggest you get AT LEAST 1gb of ram.

Also, if you decide to go with a Intel P4 set-up, get a matched pair of memory to take advantage of Dual Channel RAM. (or a AMD64 939pin)

Lastly, ask yourself whether you want to go with an Intel P4 (32bit capable), or do you want to go with an AMD64 (64bit capable). Now a days i recommend people consider the new AMD64's, especially if they plan on keeping their computer for a while. It will be a better performer in most games.
A nice little MSI K8V neo FSR with a AMD64 2800+ or 3000+.

Some people are saying they have had bad experience with that case/PSU combo..... so might want to consider something else.

Now, you said your on a budget of ~1000$, and this might bring you past your 1000$, but......... if you do a lot of digital video editing, and what-not..... you might want to get yourself a nice little WD raptor.

As for the ATI9800, that's fine for the price, especially if your on a budget. ^_^
