I looked at most of the other threads and didn't quite see any in the same ballpark as me.

I've been out of the loop since the 8 series. I'm currently using a single 8800GTS 512, and I'd like to limit myself to about $300. I asked the same question maybe 8 months ago and was told it probably wasn't worth upgrading yet in my price range, but I assume that has changed by now. Back then I was only using a single 1680x1050 monitor, but I have since upgraded to two 1920x1080 screens and might be getting a third (but my 8800 doesn't have 3 ports, so yeah).
 
6950 can be flashed into a 6970 too! At least until they release the revised PCB versions. So buy quickly!
 
Thanks, I am also open to Nvidia suggestions. I'm not 100% set on an eyefinity setup
 
What are the other specs of your pc and do you plan to upgrade there too?

the rest of of you system specs would help. but at 300 dollars the 6950 is clearly the choice to make. and make sure that your third monitor has a DP (or you can pick up a 30 dollar adapter) and your in eyefinity.

I don't plan to really upgrade anything else except maybe my ram, I'm pretty sure my only real chokepoint at the moment is my GPU

PSU: 650w Corsair
Mobo: Asus P7P55D Pro
CPU: i7 860 @ 3.2
Ram: 4gb Ripjaws (considering upping to 8gb, since I do like to multitask a few ram heavy games)
HD: 120gb Intel SSD

GTX 570 if you can swing it or a 6950 would be a nice upgrade for your system.
 
Yeah when you list $300 as your budget unlocking a 6950 is about the only real recommendation.

that is damn close to what I am building for myself. I am not upgrading as there isn't a lot of point in doing so (5870 maxes most things at 2.3mp). but if I was buying the 6950 would be it
