OK, after reading the horror stories about CD-R and DVD-R longevity, and the cost of DVD-R archival media that has no guarantees, I'm buckling down and getting an External HD.

I'll be getting one of the 3 or 5 year warranty 400-500GB drives out there and sticking it into an external enclosure since the retail external drives are all 1 year warranty drives.

The ones below are the ones with the best reviews on Newegg - have any of you used any of them?

If not, which ones do you use?

I am leaning towards the AMS Venus and MApower enclosures because both are aluminum AND have fans.

Anyone have any experience with fanless enclosures? I like the idea of less noise, but not the increased heat.
