Ok, I know there are one billion of these threads, but I want to run this one by everyone. Right now, I'll just be cooling my cpu. I'm holding off hardware updates untill after the first of the year, so I'll be keeping the loop simple for now. I'm doing a major project with my old chieftec case, so I need to start getting the pieces so I can work on it. Since I'm going with small hose size I hope I can go with a small profile pump, but I'll let you guys help me decide since I have zero watercooling experience (I have plumbing experience if that helps heh)

We'll start with the cpu block first. I've been trying to figure out what i want, and what will look cool ( yes i know that should be my last worry but.. its not) and I want it to be universal, as far as Intel socket types. So here are the two leaders for me right now.

CPU Block:
http://www.sharkacomputers.com/aqcocuxtcpub.html This is the big discussion point. I like how the Cuplex looks (minus the blue, god I hate blue) However, its very expensive. Im not sure if the cool look factor is high enough for me to drop $100+ for it, then another 12 bucks for a copper top.

Next up... http://www.sharkacomputers.com/comaaqtrcpuw.html This block dispite the smaller price seems to perform quite well. Plus I love the compression fittings and the fact there are three of them. I've read reviews and I was impressed with the numbers this block puts up.

I know alot of people on here stand by the Storm block, but I cant stand how it looks. I know thats kinda dumb, but I hate it..

Pumps: First up http://www.frozencpu.com/ex-pmp-21.html I'm not sure if i'll need one that runs this much gph or not but this one seems resonable as far as my price range

Second: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835108063 I'd like one on the small side so I can keep things tidy, but I'm not sure if this one is powerful enough.

Reservoir: I havnt decided for sure, but these are the two top candidates

I know I'm probably forgetting something but thats all I can think of right this moment. I'm trying to keep everything 3/8" so if I've goofed on somethin I know i can count on everyone to tell me

for a 3/8" pump, i'd definately go with the mcp350 liang ddc whatever you wannna call it pump.

not really a fan of either of those blocks so it's your call there.
 
I haven't heard any complaints about the Cuplex XT block so I would go with that (I like the blue though :D ). For the rad I would go with a Black Ice Pro II and just get the fittings, its a lot cheaper, only about $35 + shipping + fittings. For the pump I would go with an Eheim pump, they seem to be the most popular with AC setups, and if you're going with all AC why wouldn't you go with an AquaTube?

well what are you looking for? a high flow or lowflow set up? im running a low flow that is all AC gear.
 
Yep low flow, small tubes. I'm not dead set on getting any of these items, they are just the ones that jumped out at me. I'm really trying to do my homework before I go ahead with anything. Since I'm using this for a pimped out case I want it to look cool and still yeild me good temps.

As for the res, I dont relly care for that res, I'd like the liquid to show (black + green is my color scheme so the green liquid showing will fit nicely)

The pump, I really have no idea bout them. I was looking at 30-50 dollar aquarium pumps but I really dont know what GPH I should shoot for. I know I dont want a giant pump since I'm going to enclose it in a box of some sort (havnt tackled that just yet) and just have the compression fittings showing.

The only piece I want to get soon is the Radiator so I can start cutting the front of my chieftec. I'm definatly going dual 120mm though.. black of course :D

As far as budget, I'm just picking pieces up here and there so I can afford alittle better than if I just dropped 250-300 on a kit or a bulk setup. I'm not really going to watercool this current processor so I guess the block doesnt have to be universal, but ya never know what'll happen between now and when I upgrade to socket T in a few months. By then I'll need a gpu block but I'm not going to bother with that untill then, I'm not going to buy a block for this card so I'll conquer that when the time comes heh
 
well the cuplex pro is a very nice block yes it is pricey bet any thing imported is going to be. you can mix and match a ton of parts to make the rig have its own touch. if you want to just stick with AC i can help you out the best that i can but you will want to make sure low flow is the way you want to go becuase it can get very costly. IM running 3/8 line in my set up and it is tuff to keep it clean looking but im also water cooling every thing under the sun.
 
Low flow is more costly than high flow? I'd figure it'd be the other way around. I gotta admit the cuplex is just about the coolest looking block I've seen. First question, can I swap out the fittings with compression fittings? I'd like all my fittings to be compression. Its such a clean look.

yes the threads are 1/4 bsp so you anc put any thing on it most people use 6mm or 8mm push fittings with them. im running 10mm barbs so if you can find a 3/8 push fitting with 1/4 bsp threads your all set.
 
and i sholdent say its more costly it depends on what your cooling and how many blocks

from what i have seen high flow set ups only cool the cpu and gpu so 2 blocks, pump and rad .
 
'lo-flo' setups tend to cost more for you guys because a lot of the major players are european manufacturers and thus have to have them imported to the US.

Infact, over where I am, the best lo-flo manufacturer (alphacool imo) is very very cheap. The XP block (best european cpu block, imo) is only £20.

That's probably the cheapest block you can find, but also one of the best performers too.

That makes sence. Lo-flow isnt too popular here I suppose. Ive noticed the vast majority of setups are big lines with heavy duty pumps. I'm not dissing it at all, I just enjoy the look of the small tubes.

I bought the Cuplex XT from the place you link to and I also got some 10mm compression fittings with it that work great. I'm in the process of changing out to all push-fits but compression would be my 2nd choice.

I also have the MCP350 (never owned a Hydor) and it is awesome. I love it. I'm in the process of replacing it with an Aquastream pump though (as long as the performance doesn't suffer).

I've never like the EVO rads, however. Just personal opinion. I use the Thermochill PA 120.2 but it is pricey.
 
aww man, I was browsing the watercool picture thread. I'll loose both 3.5 drive bays if I use a dual 120.mm rad. how bad would my temps suffer with a single?
 
You can get the Cuplex XT and get other tops for it. They make a copper top and a clear plexi top as well.
 
Yeah, I put that in the first post. heh 100 for the block plus another 12 for the copper top (if i go with that block) and however much for shipping. I'm not sure if I can go quite that high for a block... we'll see though. First I'm going to tackle radiator placement. I ordered a black ice dual 120 from danger den so I can start trying to fit it in the front of my case. And thanks to reading Mnpctech's post on another forum I think I can keep my 3.5 drive bay intact. WOO!
